Update to my Costa del mar thread

For those of you who don't remember I will recap an old thread that I can no longer find. If YDGAF skip down past the next paragraph.
I had a pair of deep blue's that I loved and had purchased in 2000 which I stepped on in 2008. I sent them in this year and paid a fifteen dollar service fee and an extra 120 dollars to upgrade the plastic lenses to mirrored glass. Within a week one of the hinges got so loose that it had 30 degrees of vertical play. Sent it back in the case and box. They charged me another 15 dollar service fee for fixing a manufacturing defect without telling me and sent them back without the box. Everyone said I was cheap for complaining about the service fee.
Fast forward approximately 6 months. Today I am out on the river and jump in for a swim. Keep in mind that I am not diving or falling violently in. When I emerge my lens is missing.
Frame is undamaged. Lens just came out and is now at the bottom of the river. I am going to send them back to costa and give them a call. To me, that is unacceptable. How is it that I had a pair that lasted me 6-8 years and now I can't get a pair that lasts 6 months? I hate to sound old but they don't make them like they used to. On top of that, they have severely restricted their old warranty. If they tell me that I have to pay for new lenses I will sell this frame and buy some properly made glasses.

Damn I've never had a problem with any of my 3 pairs, other than the hinges starting to get loose after a while.
I'd skip the part about jumping in the river when you explain it to them, and just say that it came out, in case they want to be dicks about it.

Then they will ask why I don't have the other lens. I have a feeling they are going to be dicks about it no matter what. They are going to say that I broke the other lens and try to make me pay for a new set. eff that noise.

I'd say I was fishing and it fell out into the water, but yea you have a good point. I wouldn't give up until they cover it, that's bullshite otherwise.

I agree with you, the quality of these sunglasses has dramatically decreased. I went through several pairs of costas but my first pair which were bought in 2004 were definitely better quality than the ones i purchased in 2008 and on.

Don't leave them in your vehicle. The heat will expand the plastic and cause the lenses to fall out easier. Coasta's and Maui Jim are by far the best quality sunglasses lenses you can buy.

I won't disagree that the lenses are good quality, but the frames are shite now. For 250 msrp they should hold up a whole hell of a lot better than this. My old ones never had a problem with lenses falling out and I left those in my car all the time. My new ones have stayed in my car maybe once.

my Harpoons broke in half and all they charged me was a $7.95 processing fee. Shipping was free so that was nbd to me.

I'm on my 3rd pair of Costa's
The rubber was gradually coming off the frame on my current pair, I sent them back and paid $12. They sent me a brand new pair

I've had Harpoons with blue glass 580 lenses for several years. They are still tight as a drum and have never given me a problem at all. I leave them in my truck all the time, but generally in the case, stowed in the center console.
