How do you give up 400+ yards passing to a Big East opponent and expect to win the SEC West? Does it not scare the devil out of you guys that your secondary looked so suspect? No flame intended...I'll hang up and listen

If Bama had a QB we might be worried.

no, b/c LSU's only real competition, if you want to call it that, is bama out of the west. and we all know bama's offense is, well to be kind and no flame intended, junk. just pure junk.

I don't care if we give up 1000 yards passing a game when we win by 26.

Until this past weekend I though LSU had the better defense and team, but after seeing WV gut you guys and Bama shutting down Arky's passing attack... I now think Bama has the better defense, I'm not sure about the better team.

I'll bet Geno had trouble sleeping the last two nights. He threw for almost 500 yards and they only got to the end zone three times. The math almost doesn't add up.

But that appears to have been our plan. And it worked.

This sums it up:

quote:

LSU's defensive line got uncharacteristically little pressure on Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith, whose 463 yards seems like the furthest thing from a testimonial to Les Miles' defense. But that number is deceiving. For one thing, as Holly Anderson pointed out, West Virginia had a lot of field to work with since Tigers punter Brad Wing landed six kicks inside his opponent's 11-yard-line. Plus, Dana Holgorsen's offense is predicated in large part on dink-and-dunk passes, and the key for defenses is wrapping up WVU's receivers early. LSU's defense quite clearly did that, as Smith needed 62 attempts to get his yardage, equaling 7.1 yards per attempt. That combined with four turnovers helped the Tigers excel in the most important department: points allowed (21). Read more: LINK

you may get away with it now and then, but it will cost you one or two big games.

nothing LSU did Saturday night was indicative of the type of defense we normally play or will play here on out. I think it was pretty obvious Chavis' play was to bend but not break. Keep the ball in front and not give up any yard.

That sums it up right there. He didn't want to over pursue Smith and give him more field to either run or more holes to pass to.

How about this!!! How can bama expect to win the west when LSU can give up a 500 yards through the air and still win by 26?

if you look at what Chavis was doing on defense the last 3 quarters, you can see they were allowing the yardage for the most part. he pressured a little in the first quarter and didn't get the result he wanted i guess, so, true to form, he decided to get conservative.

check out the d-line for most of the game if you can catch a replay. they were bull-rushing almost every play trying to occupy passing lanes and make Geno throw. they knew they weren't going to get to him before he threw, and Chavis knew they had the game in hand as long as WVU couldn't big-play their way back in.

it drives me crazy, since i would prefer a more aggressive stance, but it's hard to argue with a W.
