I'm glad we won.

The passing D has me concerned. Of course WVA had 65 attempts. But that's a lot of yards to give up (463). It seems that the blitz was working in Q1. And then it just went away and never came back. Never have I seen a QB with more time to throw. Where was the pressure? Where did the blitz go?

Smith was sipping coffee and getting his nails done back there.

Don't worry about the yards. It means nothing and was not indicative of the game...

However, rushing no one, allowing our front 4 to get double teamed all night and giving the QB a ton of time was frustrating.

I think when he realized the officials were allowing O-Lineman to tackle blitzers and stunting DL, he thought personnel would be better used in the secondary.

Irony:
In sarcasm ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner.

LSU, your team and my team, and the AP # 2 football team. Went to play a important college football game in West Virginia against the # 14 high power offense of West Virginia. Before the game was over LSU with a very strong defense played the football game chasing the West Virginia offensive players from pillar to post all night long. LSU did not rush the WVU QB with any success by design. The LSU defense instead played what look like a ( Do not let West Virginia score quick.) A way of defending against West Virginia wide open passing Offense. Slow them down to make them scoring less. Who, and why did LSU came up with that belief?

I am laughing today because I am very glad about the LSU Victory last night. But I do now feel a bitter bit of irony that the LSU defense is indeed very strong. That they were used in an upsetting way in my eyes. Laughter is a realist of feelings. I need some more time to feel a lot better then this. LSU 47 West Virginia 21....That score seems to help me a lot.

How did you see that game?

The only stat that matters is the score. That system moves the ball and Chavis knew they could not beat us chinking and chunking like they did. It is the Mike Leach offense.

I do not think Claiborne played very well and the secondary did not tackle that good either. Geno completed what we gave him but the turnovers which that system is inclined to produce gave us great field position all night.

We have some improvements to make in our "man" coverage and the pass rush was awful all night.

The players complained about the field being slick as was Oregon and Miss State.

I noticed this too - especially out in the flats. Uncharacteristic. WVA has better athletes than they get credit for.

because WV wins with the screens and the quick passes. They expected LSU to come at the on the D-Line, not to do what they did. They could have flushed him out of the pocket, ran at him, hurried him, even knocked him down some... but that's what WV was prepared for, and it would have been suicide to LSU D. Great game plan from the coaches and Chavis. Got the W in a strong way. It's strange to see LSU win with Defense AND Offense huh?

Arguably as good as ours.
They don't have a balanced attack, however. In big games like this that will be a hurdle that they'll never overcome. One dimensional is easier to defend.

This. Listening to Hannigriff and Risher on th e post game show, Chavis abandoned the Blitz after failing to get to Geno during the first quarter. AFter that, according to them Linemen were to basically stay put, jump up and try to knock balls down and give them long field and force turnovers which for the most part worked to the tee.

I felt the same way when I didn't see them going after the QB or putting alot pressure on him. I'm thinking it was just the strategy they thought would work best for this team who likes to spread the defense out. WVU QB had a quick release and may have been able to pick up the blitz.

Lets not completely panic over the D. Oklahoma gave up the same number of yards that we did to unranked Mizzou in Oklahoma. Mizzou racked up over 240 yards rushing and over 290 yards passing. OU only won by 10 against an opponent who is "inferior" to WVU. There is some concern with the pass rush and the DBs, but no panic.

I just can't agree with this. They came within inches of cleaning his clock. I think Chavis gave up too soon.

Our D scheme / plan sucked, had it not been for the outstanding effort of the D "players", the Offense and the Special teams, we would have lost.
The game plan in D, was not good....550 + yards...not a good game plan.
---------------
A little memory from the people in TENN and why they did not like Chavis comes to me.

Tenn never could beat FLORIDA (a passing team) with a solid Off line because Chavis would always go into the read and react instead of attack mode.

I thought that this was his way of looking a passing offenses, but for the UO game we were in the attack mode, now feel it is because their line was smaller. I now believe that when Chavis faces a Passing Team with a strong front, all he knows is read-react. This will lose games for us as it did for TENN.

Our play and players won the game, not our D plan.

We have got to figure out some other method..make no mistake..many notes were taken by other coaches last night.

+ 1.. he defaulted to his old ways. read /react

I'll add that if Randle doesn't drop that TD pass, they fold the tents and we win 41-14 at worst. Couple that with the missed FG, the momentum immediately shifted. I noticed Hatcher was replaced by Muncie after allowing that 72 yard pass on the next drive.

Not only no blitz but no coverages were disguised. Horrific Gameplan by Chavis IMO. Luckily no more pass happy spread teams.
