The importance to WVU....

Lets face facts even if LSU was to lose this game your season isn't over. You can still win the SEC and have a good shot at a National Championship. This is already your 3rd primetime game against a ranked opponent. I figure you probably will have atleast 3 more games of the same caliber. So win or lose not much will change.
Now for WVU its a different story....
1. WVU has never won a National Championship. Infact WVU has the most wins by any D1 school to not have won one. If we were to beat you guys then that would put us in the driver seat the rest of the way. If we lose then we can forget about it. A 1 loss Big East team will not get a shot at the National Championship this year.
2. College gameday for the first time in the schools history for football. ABC primetime not familiar territory for the Mountaineers. We want gameday to one day comeback and we need to give them a reason...
3. All of this conference realignment BS. Apparently WVU has earned the respect of no one. Which to be honest were use to it but this time it stings. So like Jake Taylor said in the movie Major league."Theres only one thing left for us to do. WIN THE WHOLE frickING THING"

LSU is going to undress WVU in front of the whole country. They will make them look second rate, thereby validating the ugly step sister image you carry.

While I've always that that having an emotional charge going into a game is a big plus, it can only do so much for a team. And the talent gap between the two is too strong for a "we really need this" mentality to overcome that.

Yeah, this might be a problem. Be content on being the spoiler....you're not ready for the big time. Not your fault, just not where your program stands at this time. Few programs are on that big of a level but it takes time. This is why I'll always be grateful to Saban and what he figured out while here.

I agree with much of what you are saying, but I think it's a win either way for WVU. You'll get weeklong national publicity. GameDay will allow many viewers to see your stadium, city, campus and the passion of your fans.
The only way it could possibly not be a win/win for WVU is if the game is a complete blowout.
