Stadium Noise - Interesting Info from Swamp Gas

I thought it was probably louder than any home game last season, I was impressed. I'm usually the first one to say that it's a myth that BHG is the loudest stadium in the country.
I bought a decibel meter in 2009 to see if my claim was true. Last season, the games at FSU and Alabama were louder than any game in Gainesville. The 2009 games at LSU and even South Carolina were louder than any games at BHG that year. BHG gets up to about 104 dcb for big plays, but the sustained volume when UF is on defense is only about 98 dcb. The other stadiums have higher readings for both sustained volume and after big plays. My readings are from the sideline, I imagine it might be louder in the stands.
I didn't have the dCb meter yesterday though. I'll have it for the Alabama and Florida State games, and compare that to the games at South Carolina, LSU and Auburn.
I think LSU has the loudest stadium I've ever been in, but the 2005 game at Alabama was the loudest individual game I've been at. The 2006 game at BHG against SC got extremely loud after the last blocked field goal, but it wasn't like that the whole game like it is at LSU.
How Loud Was the Stadium Yesterday?

Interesting, I guess the decibel meter provides for objective findings. I went to the swamp in 2008 and thought it was pretty damn loud, of course they were scoring every 30 seconds.

I've been to numerous games at Tiger Stadium that left me thinking no way it can ever get louder than this. I went to that Alabama/LSU game in Tuscaloosa in 2007 and it was freaking loud. I'd say about as loud as LSU.

I went to the swamp last year and that place was plenty loud...

I was there too. They were a pretty stout crowd until the last minute or so.

Wish he would have brought his decibel meter to the LSU/Fla game in 07!

I have been to every stadium in the league at least twice (not counting Fayetteville). Besides Tiger Stadium, the consistently loudest ones are Florida and Auburn. I don't think Tuscaloosa gets as loud as these places, even with their expanded capacity. Maybe that will change this year when we get there. Knoxville isn't as loud either. Maybe it is because everyone is stuck to each other because the seats are so small. South Carolina has never been particularly rowdy in my opinion either, but that is because we have kicked the crap out of them the times I have been there. Georgia gets loud, but not like Auburn and Florida.

Would rules allow for a decibel reading to be shown on the scoreboard from time to time? That would really get the crowd going...

That would drive TIger Stadium nuts I bet.
I've never been to any road games but I can tell you sometimes in Tiger Stadium I can barely hear myself making noise.

Dear god, this is genius.

I brought a decimeter to the 2009 Fla LSU game and although we got loud it was no where near the volume of the 2007 game.
In 2009 from the lower level of the south endzone, I recoded a sustained level of 122 and a peak of 129
120 is reported as the human threshold of pain FWIW.
I decibel rating on the board with the monitor/mic being on the opponents side line would be GENIUS.

I went to the Swamp last year and was highly unimpressed....3/4s of the stadium sat the entire game, and it was no where near as loud as LSU.

Swamp gets loud at pointless times, like when Florida takes the field or the beginning of the 4th quarter.
Not incredibly loud when the Gators are on defense.
