Notre Dame Should Go To The ACC

most irish fans are hoping this is the move we make IF we are forced into a conference. joining the big ten regionalizes us which is far from appealing while the ACC still allows for a national brand and an expanded recruiting ground; population is booming in VA, NC, SC & FL. additionally, academics are solid.
big ten has $$$, but if the ACC gets the $$$ close to a push, the ACC will be a no-brainer for notre dame.

ND could keep the Michigan, USC, Mich St, and Purdue games if it goes to the Big Ten. If it goes ACC, it will likely have to choose between Michigan or USC and that be it for rivalry games.

I just looked at a few Irish forums and was very surprised to see how receptive your fans are to this. Dan Wetzel has a column endorsing it and I agree with his reasoning. The B1G is a conference in decline, both in football and in population. If ND moves to the ACC I think that PSU will as well. It's crazy, but not that crazy.

it was a hot discussion last week on the boards; some guys believe wetzel took his entire article from the points brought up by forum members.
most ND fans despise the idea of joining the B1G as well...

Hell joining the BIG wouldn't stop people from loving Notre Dame or watching them. No matter what conference they join people will watch. Now the recruiting I doubt if going to the ACC would help with that. I don't see schools like Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc having a problem recruiting while in the BIG.

they also are large state schools and the majority of their players come from the home state; notre dame doesnt have that. our players come from across the country. joining the B1G regionalizes our football team to a dying midwest which is far from attractive.

I always thought the B1G (new shorthand to me - what's that mean exactly?) was a natural fit for ND, but I have no tie to either. It's a complete outsider view.

Makes sense... but Nebraska and ND would help the regional thing. PSU, UM, and tOSU have national draw as well.

This last round of realignment may be the last chance for NBC. Step up with your ND, add the Big12 (10-1) & the BigE remnants. Odds are that ND makes a move when their NBC TV contract expires. Last chance for NBC.

I don't think this will be the last round of expansion.

Agree ND should consider the Big, but unfortunately, this is not about the fans, rivalries, or student athletes. It's about TV & the $$$$$.

2 of their rivals, Boston College and Pitt are now in the ACC.

Ok - still makes no sense, but at least I understand where it came from.
This is worse than Les-speak!

Its contemporary collegiate lettering includes an embedded numeral "10" in the word "BIG," which allows fans to see "BIG" and "10" in a single word. Memorable and distinctive, the new logo evolved from the previous logo's use of negative space and is built on the conference's iconic name, without reference to the number of member institutions.

the only two rivalry games worth maintaining yearly are USC and Navy; the rest are expendable.
for example, recently notre dame and michigan have had frequent discussions about taking a break from the rivalry and both parties are satisfied with that decision.
with the big ten going to 9 conference game seasons inevitably matchups vs purdue and MSU will also die off or at least occur less often.

Just saw the 11 in the old logo and can only see "10" in the new one if I pretend a 'G' is a '0'. How about just getting a new name that actually makes sense when you don't have 10 teams any more?

Notre Dame better get their shite together and realize that this time if they don't grab a chair they will absolutely lose in this massive money grab game of musical chairs
