World War I Films

I can really only think of two on the top of my head: Lawrence of Arabia and All Quiet on the Western Front (and that certainly has more to do with the book). We have plenty of WWII and Vietnam films, but we don't really have many WWI films at all that aren't over 70 years old. World War I was probably the most miserable war to fight in during the 20th century, and could make for a fantastic Kubrick-style film. Dissecting the lives in the trenches could be great. It wouldn't be about the fighting per say, just mostly on how miserable and pointless the war seemed to be.

The Lost Battalion is fantastic.
The Blue Max is a good flick on German pilots.

Paths of Glory is only 54 years old. That's not just my favorite WWI movie but my favorite War movie period.

Gallipoli was made in 1981 with a young Mel Gibson. It is a movie about the Australian side and their fight against the Ottoman Turks.

Paths Of Glory = Kubrick

Yeah, it's fricked up. They use snippets from it in Metallica's One (War Remix) very effectively.

I think you have that backwards. Johnny Got His Gun is a 70s movie and One is an 80 video.
