How far north are people noticing the smoke? I know it has formed a nice haze here in Baton Rouge. It has to be pretty damn think further south.

I know nothing about Bayou Sauvage. I assume the fishing is good. Is there any hunting allowed?

I don't hunt but i used to fish back there regularly when I was growing up. To my knowledge there was no hunting or at least no legal hunting on the refuge.

It appears that they may have lifted that regulation according to this article on NOLA: LINK

While fishing I used to frequently see rabbit, pigs, deer and lots of ducks in the winter time. If the water has dried up with the drought getting back there would be a real pain. Most of the water on the refuge is very shallow with the exception of the 'pits'.

I would imagine in the long run a fire will help the area. It seams like things grow back really fast after a fire.

Just got done feeding my horses and no smoke in the Gonzales area. I think the winds shifted. Hopefully rain coming over the weekend to help with the fire.

The crazy thing is I live about 5 miles east of the fire, and we have had good air most of the week. It only smelled bad on Saturday. It is way worse in town and to the west.

I haven't heard that they finalized the hunting in the area, but I can tell you there are thousands of rabbits and hogs. Hopefully it will be legal soon.

I have no idea what a Coon Pecker Point smells like and I intend to keep it that way.
