buddy of mine that lives in Oklahoma said yesterday there were private planes from Norman and Austin that visited College Station, Columbia, and Stillwater at the same time.

Could be nothing, but could be Big 12 head honcho's trying to keep the conference together before it falls apart and they have to invite Memphis and NIU in.

The CS plane was probably a last-ditch effort to keep A&M. The Columbia plane is probably an effort to lean on Mizzou to stay put, as they've wanted out for years and would leap at the chance to join the SEC since the Big Ten doesn't want them right now.

The one that surprises me in that list is Stillwater.

The SEC doesn't want Okie State, so any planes going there would either be to convince them and T. Boone Pickens that they'll be a player in the "smart-sized" Big 12 or to sell them on a move to the Pac 12 with OU.

I think this is why it was in Stillwater. We know Texas isn't scared to go to the Pac 12 as they've almost made that move once, but in the same breath they could just as easily go independent. Not that they will, but hell they've already surpassed ND(the number 1 independent right now) with their TV deal.

The LHN has made the PAC12 very leary, esp now with their new TV deal

UT is damaged goods right now, no major conference wants to get involved with them, plus the Horns dont want to get involved in any conference where they cant dictate the rules in their favor

It was reported on some other sites that this was a last ditch effort to persuade A&M to stay and A&M took the meeting out of respect for those universities and their presidents, but as Caeser would say "alea iacta est".

Why would A&M stay? Was Beebe going to offer them more Monopoly money at the expense of Baylor and Iowa State in order to do so?

I think all the bridges had already been burned and have been smoldering for a while.

#1 Regardless of Scott's comments, I think both the Pac 12 & Big 10 would love to have Texas and would find a way to make the LHN work.

#2 I am always mystified by people who say Texas dictates the rules in the Big 12. On every issue (revenue sharing, 3rd tier tv rights, location of the conf title game & HQ) through out the entire history of the conference, every school has voted the same way EXCEPT for Nebraska. That means A&M, Colorado....everyone....always voted the same as Texas.

Other than reading nonsense on message boards, what makes you think Texas dictates the rules in the Big 12?

I'd say DeLoss Dodds' own words about the Texas athletic department running a major search for potential new Big 12 schools certainly helps.

Beebe and the conference should be running that kind of search, not an individual member of the conference.

There is a 5 person search committee for replacement teams with Dodds, the OU AD, the Okie State AD and a couple of others. That is his role as a committee member.

Seriously, I'd like some examples of Texas dictating the rules of the Big 12.

repeated media reports over and over again that Texas consistently flexes it muscle to get whatever it wants, and threatens to leave if it doesnt get it's way

-Nebraska wasnt having it

-Colorado left for (I think) different reasons - they just wanted to be more connected with the west coast

-A&M isn't having it

the tides are turning against you. I was shocked to hear the radio guys this morning state what most have been saying around here. "This is not good for Texas, the Texas arrogance has now forced a 9-team league, and BYU is not a great solution."

These were UT-homer-esque people stating this. Hogan and Brown said this morning - I know all you UT fans are saying "good riddance" and "we dont care" but you do, and if you dont, you should

As the days go by, it's getting more and more difficult for UT to keep up the spin that they are not the bad guy, because that's becoming the picture, whether you choose to admit it or not.

I think that was the point they were making. Texas dictates the rules and only Nebraska had to balls to stand up to them. Now they are gone. The other universities are tired of being force fed their opinions from Texas.

Q-- If A & M is in such lock-step, why the threat of leaving?

I would think that if a team gets a bigger revenue share than another team in the same conference would have the power and say so in said conference.

1) Link or GTFO
2) official vote =\= schools feelings. A&M was for equal revenue sharing last year. But if it wasn't going to be equal we damn sure were going to get the best deal we could
