under no circumstances can i envision UNC leaving their beloved ACC for the SEC. however, when they do see their country club conference falling apart, i could see them jumping to the Big 10.

i think the pecking order for #14 is such...
1. Oklahoma - may have some big hurdles, but it's worth pursuing. OU has to realize that UT is going independent w/i 5 years and they'll be left w/ the Big 12 remains aren't much better than Conference USA. Slive may also be evaluating scenarios to go to 16 and include OSU.
2. Va Tech - great add to balance A&M. and Va Tech would be a power w/ the SEC resources.
3. Missouri - easy way to get to #14. Missouri jumps w/o any questions, but does fit near as well as VPI.

Maryland - makes no sense.

they are not a power now, they beat up on a crappy ACC then choke in their bowl games. They have pretty much tapped out their resources when it comes to recruiting VA and if UVA turns that corner VT recruiting will take a big hit which it already has gone down a little with UVA's new staff from last year

failure

Maryland makes all the sense. It contols the media, everyone who was talking about the "DC market" and VT don't know a thing. Maryland is the school in that area, including DC and northern Virgina which equals $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

period. Perfect fit. You can't look at this as a fan, who's better in what sport blah blah blah

they are in a BCS conference and have been to BCS football bowls and won NCAA tournaments. That's all that matters, they are competing and bring a huge amount of alumni (power alumni too) and eyeballs
