I'd enjoy seeing Virginia Tech added. Wouldn't mind Mizzou either.

whether people want them or not....mizzou stands out as the obvious pick. Va Tech is in an easier conference and it's not on the verge of crumbling. They have no reason to leave. UNC is not going to happen and neither is Maryland.
I welcome a heated basketball rivalry with the tigers.

I think I speak for the majority of Kentucky fans when I say that I would welcome UNC since we play annually anyway.

UNC would be great, no doubt. I see no reason why they would leave, though.
Mike Anderson has set us up nicely for a great rivalry if mizzou comes to the SEC

I don't know why UNC would give two fricks about Duke honestly. Just play them out of conference in basketball. I realize its a good rivalry etc., but they would be dumb to not jump at this opportunity.
Them and Kentucky could easily have a great rivalry in basketball as well.

I see some argument for mizzou and va tech - NC I don't really. They are a storied basketball school and the games against duke, nc state, wake forest, and maryland would be lost so they can lose a lot of football games? I don't see the return for them frankly
Mizzou is not a perfect fit (their regional rivalries with kansas and illinois make them a better fit for the big 12 or the big 10) but I could see them added as a power play for the missouri television markets. I don't think that would ultimately be all that successful though. STL and KC are more pro sports towns (esp cardinals and chiefs) than they are college sports towns and what interest they have in college sports would really have to be shored up with games in STL vs Illinois and in KC vs Kansas to maximize the interest of those cities in the state's flagship university.
Va Tech seems like a reasonable fit culturally and geographically - if they are not tied to Virginia (and if they think they can take a step upwards and compete successfully in a better conference).

you mean Maryland and Gary frickin' Crowton.....

I'd prefer UNC but I don't see it happening.
If A&M leaves the Big 12, that adds momentum for Mizzou to jump, too.
That virtually assures the disintegration of the Big 12 (8) in short order.
In order for 14 teams to make sense, we need more superconferences to form.
I know nothing about Maryland, except that they are turtles.

The biggest problem with Mizzou being added as opposed to one of the ACC schools is realignment. I would think the SEC prefers to add one in each division.

UNC won't come. Academics and basketball tradition ... Can't see them leaving NC State and Duke triangle either.
Posted on 8/29/11 at 12:10 pm to Latarian
under no circumstances can i envision UNC leaving their beloved ACC for the SEC. however, when they do see their country club conference falling apart, i could see them jumping to the Big 10.
i think the pecking order for #14 is such...
1. Oklahoma - may have some big hurdles, but it's worth pursuing. OU has to realize that UT is going independent w/i 5 years and they'll be left w/ the Big 12 remains aren't much better than Conference USA. Slive may also be evaluating scenarios to go to 16 and include OSU.
2. Va Tech - great add to balance A&M. and Va Tech would be a power w/ the SEC resources.
3. Missouri - easy way to get to #14. Missouri jumps w/o any questions, but does fit near as well as VPI.
Maryland - makes no sense.

they are not a power now, they beat up on a crappy ACC then choke in their bowl games. They have pretty much tapped out their resources when it comes to recruiting VA and if UVA turns that corner VT recruiting will take a big hit which it already has gone down a little with UVA's new staff from last year

Why the hell are people hating on Mizzou?

If mizzou comes around, that would make for good rivalry matchup: LSU-A&M, ARk-Mizzou

Beamer gets credit for building the VPI program, but many Hokies that i've talked to believe that Beamer has plateaued as a coach. He's never been that great a recruiter, but Virginia is loaded w/ talent. I agree that UVa has a staff that may out recruit VPI if they don't watch out. But the state has plenty to support both schools and VPI should be able to recruit in NC, MD & PA better. I don't think Beamer would stay much longer if they joined the SEC. not that he'd get fired, but it wouldn't suit him to lead them through the transition. a new coach w/ the SEC $$$ and prestige could make them formidable. they have good football support and w/ the SEC, they could easily fill an 80,000 stadium in Blacksburg.

Not really, Arkansas and Missouri have played 5 times, yes only 5 times since 1906, ha.
Zero history with any big12 team that isn't named Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor or Texas Tech.

What an idiot, Dodd lost all credibility at Maryland. Adding the 14th on the east makes sense (no one wants to see a AU moved to the east), but it will be one of the NC schools, Va Tech or WVU.
\
The longer this goes on, the more absurd the suggestions will become. I hear App State is making the move up....

i'd rather stay at 12 than add any of these

If this has any validity I guess what they're looking for is new markets, Missouri and TExas A&M bring that. That gives LSU a rival and the hogs a rival and you add Houston/Dallas market and St. Louis market.
Maryland and Va Tech would give you that DC market as well.
I'm starting to think Clemson, Fla St don't really bring in any new viewers.
