Is the marine involved in the fight a former marine which would make him a civilian or is he now in the marines which would make him federal property? If he is presently enlisted shouldn't he have to answer to his superiors for his conduct unbecoming of a marine just like the players involved have to answer to coach Miles and LSU for conduct unbecoming of LSU players and representatives? I heard years ago that armed forces personel are property of the federal government and that harming a person in the armed forces is a federal offense. Is this something we should be concerned about?

Better Question: Why is everyone ostricizing the players for beating up "a marine"?

How were they supposed to know he was a marine? Was he in his fricking uniform?

Are you not supposed to fight a marine who's trying to fight you b/c he's a marine?

Nah not unless he had fatigues on, kind of like a cop being off duty...

The UCMJ has no jurisdiction over civilians.

Guy was wearing regular clothes, and probably didn't identify himself. I think he just ran in to help his buddies, and others thought he was joining the fight. I don't think the players have any worries in this regard. Now, he might be questioned by his superiors, but I think he dodges that, as well, unless the defendant layers want charges filed, on him.

Myth

Federal property has to have a monetary value
