And tell me how many times we blitzed?

How many times we were outside of a 4-3 base package or variation (nickel/dime)?

How many times we ran a zone dog?

How many times we brought more than 6 guys?

How many times a safety came off the edge or through a gap?

Exactly.

again, it is even better to not have to blitz as much. Blitzing is high risk high reward. Why not get some pressure with your front 4 so you can keep 7 guys in coverage? And that is not my biggest concern. Our new DT's concerned me against the run. I know it is pre-season but it was a little discomforting seeing us get gashed like that. I have faith GW will get things cleaned up.

My point is this is about the most vanilla I've ever seen us on both sides of the ball. We showed nothing on O or D. We ran very conservative plays.

Houston is good. We play them in like 5 weeks.

We don't play the 9ers. We did a lot more D stuff vs them. Hmmmmm.

Oh my god! Rationality!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we also not play Jenkins until well into the first half? As far as I'm concerned, he's the 2nd most important person on the defense behind Vilma. Judging the D without him is barely worth it, because Oliver failed his audition badly.

agreed, it still does not change the fundamentals of our D line getting gashed. this should not happen with rogers and franklin helping ellis now IMO. where were the LB's? however the texans are pros also so we will see. it happens. we just cannot afford for the D to have a terrible game again come playoff time. see last year versus seahawks. hopefully franklin is back for the packers game.

Its preseason...why show Houston what we are going to do during regular season?

definitely some poor performances but agree with all the points

makes me wanna start an associated thread...

Go back, check the posts...

Who are all these posters out of the woodwork with the sky is falling routine? Is it just on game days that they show up with all the answers that Payton & Loomis missed?

AGAIN

preseason should have nothing to do with that. now stunts? yes. blitzes? yes. Offensive play calling? yes. But not gap play and stopping the run with run stuffer DT's. AGAIN, hopefully GW gets this cleaned up quickly. I know everyone is expecting big things out of this D line this year.

Again, our Defense blitzes. That's what we do.

Do you think teams that "get pressure with the front 4" just line up and say " go get em".

No. They run stunts. Twists. They bring 5 and 6 guys to take blockers. They drop guys in zone.

But we blitz. That's who we are. We run the 4-3, the 3-4, 4-2-5, 5-2, the 46. We run zone dogs. We bring safeties, CBs.

Guess what? We did none of that.

idk blues, i was thinking the same thing last night. I still feel very good about this team this year. And, I am still sticking by my prediction that we will be back in the Super Bowl this year. We will get clicking come regular season. We do have a very tough schedule though IMO.
I still feel that way we went out last year has not been forgotten by the players. We are hungry again.

there's so many retarded threads I ain't jumpin in them... might catch sumpin

I will say Oliver might have played himself out of a roster spot. Who'll end up with #25 this year. I think it would be pretty funny to have a lotta people with their Reggie jerseys show up with Oliver or whoever with that name taped on over Bush.

That giants team that beat the pats did also a few years back. Not sure if they ran a tampa 2 zone. but they did get pressure with 4 guys. There are other teams that get pressure with 4 also. This is not like we are searching for a needle in a haystack. It can be done.

Not worried about the D at all. A little worried about parts of the 0.

and as i stated above we did not need to run stunts or blitzes in a preseason game. and we did not. is that the only way to stop the run? you cannot just play your gap, beat your guy and stop the run? I am just saying seeing us get gashed was discomforting. again, i have faith we will clean it up fundamentally. so then when we do use stunts and blitzes they will work even better.

mainly in the pats game, b/c of how the pats spread out the field

we don't have that level of pass rusher talent. hell, we don't have 1 legit pass rusher on the DL. those teams have 2-3

we have to blitz to get pressure. just how it is
