Hey Tigers,
It was a ton of hours…like 45 over a month, and some expense but here is some information about the Oregon Offense that should make the game a bit more interesting for you.
LINK
Come back here and discuss as usual. I am curious….does LSU run the Zone Read play at all?

A couple thoughts:
1. Way too long for me to want to read.
2. Your website has a handsome look to it at least.
3. Don't think you can just promo your site blatantly like that. Gotta be sneaky about it at least.

Don't read it - watch the video. He talks through the entire script.

quote:Yes, pretty effectively too, although the rant bitches about it for some reason. JJ runs it well, I remember a touchdown with that play against Mississippi state, and a realy long touchdown against Tennessee

Because Russell Shepard would run it better. However, "he can't throw." Meanwhile the LSU QB's that "can throw" led us to the 107th best passing offense in college football last season.

I watched the whole video on that link, very informative.
Reminded me of my hs coach and his sight adjust passing offense.
My hopes are that in addition to reading the end or whomever, he is worrying about the lineman being pushed back.
This should be a fun game to watch

JJ does a pretty good zone read but it wasn't introduced fully into the offense until midway through the season. JJ still made some questionable decisions with the ball throughout and didn't always choose correctly. That can only be corrected with experience, which he now has, and will probably be a little better at it if it's still in the playbook.
And no LSU fan has any idea about Shepard's passing ability as he will apparently never throw a pass despite being a great dual threat QB in HS. Oh well.

Dude, DT is still learning it three years later. DT gives us the verticle threat that Masoli didn't but the latter was a master at the point of the mesh. He optioned very well. I can't wait until we can combine the two.

Nevermind, that was Dixon. He had broadcasters following the decoy. I still can't believe we burned his redshirt.

Looking forward to watching the video after work - no time this morning - but to answer your question, yes, LSU runs the zone read.
Including a variant of the mid-line option where the DT is the guy being read.
Here's an example of the mid-line option (from the shotgun) that worked well:
Mid-line option
Edit: For those interested in the details, it's the DT on the right of the defensive formation that's left unblocked, and is the read key, on this play.

That gun midline cut up was good stuff.
LSU also runs the dash play. full flow look by the back with the line blocking inside zone the opposite way. just like the standard zone read the end is the read key except that if he squats or squeezes you hand off to the back. If he runs up field or chases the RB then the QB keeps and runs the zone.
some do it off the power play and rather than kickout the DE with a full back they read him. it can also be done off the counter play.

Thank you.
That was very well put together and explained.
Great job, and again, thank you.

Very well done and informative, FishDuck.

Norfolk...that was great. I've come to appreciate great talent using the Zone Read, and plays like that are fun to watch.
My take on that play is....yes, it was a mid-line out of what we call the Outside Zone Read, (that video will be up in a week) and since the DT "sat" then technically the correct read was to hand off.
However Jefferson, is like Masoli was for us; there are times when the QB KNOWS he's a better athlete in space than the defender he's Zone Reading, hence he takes off after a move or two.
Great stuff--thanks.
