Arkansas SEC Success

Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992 and in 1995 won the SEC West. They have also won the West in 98*, 2002 and 2006. If they win just one of those 3 title games they are viewed differently as an SEC program.
My thought on this is, why is it assumed A&M cannot compete in the SEC for years and years using Arkansas as an example? First, they win their division very quickly. Secondly, they have had some success just not as much as Bama, LSU and Auburn

LSU was pretty shitty in the 90s and Arky didn't take advantage. In '02 LSU should have won the division but Mauck was hurt. 2006 Arky was badass with DMac and Jones.
You've got to see how LSU and Alabama have elevated from where they both were 10 years ago.

Because you can't even win the Big 12, and you have routinely been smoked by SEC teams the last several years. Seriously, if you can't win an inferior conference why would people expect you to excel in a superior conference?
That is why people feel that way.

They didn't win shite in 98 and in 02 they actually finished 2nd but Bama was on probation and couldn't go.
They also tend to get murdered when they do make it to ATL.

Arkansas won the division in '95 because the other five teams were mediocre. Alabama and Auburn lost many of their starters from the teams they had the year before (teams that only lost 1 game). LSU was down, Ole Miss sucked as usual, and Mississippi State was bleh.
Plus, in the 1990s, the SEC West wasn't a very good division. Alabama was the team that consistently won the West during that time period. Be that as it may, Alabama was usually only the third best team in the SEC. The two best teams - Florida and Tennessee - were in the same division.
It wasn't until 2001 that a team from the West not named Alabama actually won the SEC Championship Game.

Bunny, I think that proves success is cyclical. Nobody stays on top forever. Some stay longer (Bama), but nobody stays up forever. Even Nebraska, ND and Mich have had recent funks to battle out of.
A&M is not of those schools caliber but we appear to be coming out of a 7 year funk (2002-2009)

Arkansas is two games over .500 all time in the SEC; this is the first time they've ever been above .500. They've only won the West one time without the help of someone else's NCAA sanctions.
And the only time A&M has had a sustained period of not sucking was when they were cheating their asses off.
A&M sucks. Not worth the trouble imho.

Send Slive a tweet and see how much that opinion of yours matters.
It's a good thing smarter people run the SEC and it's institutions

I don't get why Arkansas is always hated on so much (well it's their fans on here, but still). They are disprespected as a program, always play the big games tough, and are very competetive. Sure they haven't won the SEC in 15 years and have only won the West a few times, but Arkansas is always a tough out, especially for LSU. Texas A&M, on the other hand, gets shat on by SEC teams and by Big 12 teams all the time. The Aggies are not even close to having the same caliber program that Arkansas does, or has, for the last 5-10 years.

# of SEC wins since expansion:
1. Florida 128
2. Tennessee 108
3. Auburn 95
4. Georgia 94
5. Louisiana State 90
6. Alabama 83
7. Arkansas 73
8. South Carolina 61
8. Mississippi 61
10. Mississippi State 56
11. Kentucky 43
12. Vanderbilt 24
They're below average, and they've been the best team in the West only once (at the most).

I can't argue with the numbers, they are definitely an average SEC school. That being said, Texas A&M is not even close to being in the same ballpark as them recently in terms of competing.

We Pigs have reached out and shown only love toward LSU, but mostly, they just hate us in return. We send them messages of goodwill with our maritime banners, but it does no good. They just need a rival.
Thanks for the kind words LSUtoOmaha!

We had some tough years during our first decade in a half in the SEC. Jack Crowe introduced us into the SEC with an embarrassing loss to Citadel. Danny Ford was awful, Nutt took advantage of SEC teams being in trouble with the NCAA, I think maybe we had 2 good years under Nutt.
No doubt we're in the rise right now with Petrino. So it appears we finally found our guy.

Is that why they only managed to squeak out a 7 point win last year when our injured QB threw 4 picks? We will see what happens in JerryWorld this year, and you will be changing your tune.

It will be the same result as the last 3 times aggie lined up against the SEC in Jerry World. Somethings never change.
