Another Scheduling Format Possibility

If SEC goes to 14 teams:
No divisions
Three common opponents every year, enabling rivalres to stay intact
Other ten rotate 5 and 5 every two years
Top two play in SEC title game
Advantages:
Stay with 8 games, which still allows for marquee OOC matchups
Get the true top 2 teams playing for the title
True rotation where you play everyone within a 4 year period...every class should have the opportunity to play every SEC team
I know some schools don't have a true rivalry, but that's the case now anyway.
Also, use the BCS system to break ties after head to head...encourage strong scheduling.

I like it.
It'll never happen.
But I like it.

No divisions? Fine with me, though the NCAA actually requires them for a ccg.
And three is too few. I'd go with five, and rotate three games. Most sec teams have more than three classic rivalries.

The strength of it is that there is a sense of being part of the whole conference. The weakness is that missing 5 teams is an awful lot and luck of the schedule becomes a bigger factor in which teams are "best." Divisions minimize the problem by forcing you to at least play the best team in the other div even if luck helped you to get there. For this reason I do not like the single div.

I couldn't live without playing Ole Miss, Auburn, Bama, FL, and Arkansas every year. Those are the only games I always look forward to. Would hate to lose that.
Make those 5 games permanent and I don't give a shite who and how many teams the SEC adds.

Pretty sure the SEC could get an exemption or tweak that part of the "rule"

Which means I give a shite who the SEC adds...GTFO A&M. You're going to make this fan angry!

Yeah, it's radical compared to what we're used to seeing, but it was the only way to crunch it to get to play every team within a 4 year period. I like our rivalries as much as anyone, but at least you'd only have to go 2 seasons without seeing them. I just don't like the 5 years (and more in the past) between seeing the East teams in Tiger Stadium. The fact that LSU never played Herschel Walker, Peyton Manning and Bo Jackson blows my mind.

True...and would mean LSU could be more adventurous OOC in certain years when the rotating schedule is kind.

If we do I with my tweak, LSU plays ark/A&M/om/MSU/Bama every year:
2012: SC @KY FL
2013: @AU VU @FSU
2014: TN @GA KY
In three years, you've got everyone at least once.

Ah I see...you're doing the mixed rotation similar to now. Not bad at all. Just something different from these scenarios I've seen that have everyone keeping 1 permanent and rotating the other 6, where it would be like 11 years between meetings.

Do years 2015-17 work if you flip the previous three years in regards to keeping home-away balance (4 and 4)?
In 2015, you have LSU set to play two home and 3 road versus the permanent five schools but flips around to have two roads and one home versus the 2012 trio (SC/KY/FL) who would rotate back around. Thus, 5 roads and just 3 homes for the season.

quote:yeah that would be fine, but each school would have another school that would appear four times in the rotation. Maybe that could be assigned.

If we have to expand, this is a great idea. Forward this $hit to Slive.

Looks good! I could live with it.
I guess ours 3 would be Bama, A&M and maybe Auburn

Tiebreaker would be more difficult.
What if you have 4 or 5 teams at 6-2? How do you tie break? There are no divisional tiebreakers to help sort them out.

Head-to-head to eliminate teams involved first followed by record vs. common opponents and then BCS ranking.

Right. Tie-breakers are never really hard if you have a spreadsheet open.
1. Head to head
2. Record vs. common opponents
3. Record vs. common opponent with best record
---Record vs. common opponent with next-best record
---etc
4. BCS ranking
1. Head to head
2. Record vs. common opponents
