I'm sure this has already been discussed, but frankly, this board is way too clustered and I don't care to search.

Anyways, so if A&M and Missouri join the SEC, I'm assuming there will be two divisions of 7 teams (East and West). I'll also assume the SEC will go to a 9-game conference schedule, with 6 games against division teams and 3 against teams from the opposite division.

So, assuming A&M and Missouri join the West, this must mean that Alabama or Auburn will be pushed to the East, correct? As an LSU fan, how can you not like this? You'd have to think LSU and the remaining Alabama school would dominate a division of the two Mississippi schools, Arkansas, Mizzou, and A&M, while the other Alabama school (probably Auburn), Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee have to kill themselves to make it out of the East.

Not sure if the permanent rivalries would remain in place. That would be interesting to see.

No. But historically, a division with top teams of Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and probably Auburn would be a much tougher division than a division that will probably be dominated by LSU and Alabama year in and year out.

I think they want an east team to go with TAM rather than 2 west teams.

If you put AU in the East, then bama has to choose between playing Tennessee every year or us.

Likewise, Auburn would have to choose between bama and Georgia if you move bama.

I thought I heard that it would be hard to add a team like Florida State, Clemson, or Georgia Tech because Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia (respectively) wouldn't be okay with that. Plus, if Texas A&M joins the SEC, the Big XII could very well dissolve as a result of massive conference changes. At that point, I would think the SEC would try to get a Missouri or an Oklahoma before they are scooped up by some other conference.

And yes, if Alabama or Auburn switched divisions, a permanent rivalry would have to be sacrificed. I think Auburn would move to the East, and the Alabama/Tennessee permanent rivalry would be lost. But at the end of the day, I don't think something like that will keep the SEC higher-ups from adding A&M and Missouri.

Maybe, they could make the divisions north and south instead?

edit: or, just do something lame like the Big10 and call the divisions by a name instead of geographic location

North - Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia

South - A&M, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Florida

The South would be fricking unreal.

yeah, that is, as you have em listed. Bama's north of Auburn though, so swap em out. and let's swap UGA and Ole Miss.

It seems like it, but is it really that much more different than the "cake walk" West you proposed in the OP? Both options would have a group with 4 strong teams.

North - Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia

South - A&M, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Florida

Or

West - A&M, Missouri, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas

East - Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida, Georgia

And, honestly, that south doesn't is pretty much the west now, save for trading Arky for Florida. LSU already plays Florida every year, and Arky has gotten the best of LSU recently. Imo, the Hogs are being discredited here as they have actually played in Atlanta in 2002 and 2006.

Edit: not to say that Arky = UF

Yea, but LSU and Alabama (at least recently) are a higher quality duo than Tennessee and Georgia (who I originally had in the North before I accidentally edited).

Edited my post again. Well, there is no easy answer. Also, it would be impossible to predict future success. Look at the 90's compared to the '00's. I think Tenn and UGA will remain competitive programs.

How about this:

A&M and Mizzou join the SEC west.

Auburn AND Alabama move to the east sending Vandy to the West.

EAST
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina
Tennessee

WEST
A&M
Arkansas
LSU
Mizzou
Ole Miss
Miss St
Vandy

Move miss. St to the east. Go to 9 conference games and keep the 1 permanent rival. all problems now solved

It is still a matter of time when there will be four super conferences. Missouri will eventually be added to the Big Ten along with Texas, Kansas, and either Rutgers, Syracuse, or West Virginia.

Texas A&M will eventually be added to the SEC along with Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Clemson.

If only TAMU and Mizzou are added, why not just place Mizzou in the East?

Mizzou can have Arky as their permanent opponent in football and is closer to Tennessee, UK, and Vandy than TAMU and the other current West division schools.

Start doing the maps for drives to/from Mizzou. It is easy to just throw them in the East
