Aren't they supposed to be meeting today? Whats the result of that?

Set for 3p CST. No vote or anything is supposed to come out of it. The Board of Regents will be giving authority to our University President to act on their behalf.

what are they gonna do? force there way into the conference. i'm confused as to what the SEC did yesterday. no invite was given. that should make the situation a done deal wouldn't it?

Nope, A&M has to leave the Big 12 before the SEC can invite them.

Good article explaining what happened.
quote:
"The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment. We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M."
Within seconds, Texas A&M's quest to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC was declared dead. Texas fans cranked up the "little brother" jokes, and the Aggies became the laughingstock of the sporting world. Someone even hacked the Twitter account -- it must have been a hacker, right? -- of colleague Stewart Mandel to proclaim to the world that the SEC had "PASSED" on Texas A&M.
Except that's not what the release said. The language was pure legalese meant to slow a boulder rolling downhill. Here's a more accurate translation. If we can make more money from our TV contracts, we're probably going to expand. But no one has applied for membership yet. So we didn't vote today. If we had voted to extend an offer to a school that hadn't applied for membership, we might have left ourselves exposed to a big, fat lawsuit. So don't sue us, Big 12. If someone, perhaps a land-grant institution based in College Station, Texas, happens to authorize its president to seek new conference membership -- maybe at a special Board of Regents meeting Monday afternoon -- and that president happens to ask us to consider his school for membership, then we might strongly consider that school.

i get this, as this is what has been passed on this board since yesterday. my question is, and not aimed directly at you but just in general is, it didn't sound too encouraging from the sec officials yesterday on the a&m move. a&m is in a bad spot to say f off big 12, can we come in sec, not knowing that the sec is even going to fully vote them in....i know the postouring point that was made, but i would think a&m would have to have some sort of confidence level to tell the big 12 see you later. and if they have some back door agreement, doesn't that still leave the sec liable to some suit?
just curious.

You know they have to have been given an idea of 'you have the votes' before embarking down this road. Its gone too long this time for me to think its just a ploy to get something else out of the Big 12 or make texas change its dirty ways.

SEC needed to use strong enough language to convey that they are not initiating any moves, but as strong as that language was, they also left the door open to entertaining future expansion opportunities. It was CYA from litigation, it seems.

The Big XII/Texas supposedly offered a lot of concessions to get us to stay. We declined to not further commit to the Big XII while exploring our options.
If the SEC vote isn't approved than we are fuuuuuuuuuggggggged. Texas will litterally bend us over and show us the 50 states. It won't be good.
IMO we have crossed a point of no return in the Big XII. So if the SEC were to say no we will explore the Pac-12 or B1G. The SEC knows this and Slive will try his best to not let the presidents let the Texas market/money slip away.
Texas alone on the SEC footprint ups the TV sets by 52% of what it currently has

IMO, if the SEC does not offer Tx A&M membership if and when A&M applies, if they choose to, that would be very underhanded. It is obvious that Slive has courted Tx A&M.
