ESPN's Role In Big 12/SEC shake up

I am sure some of this is Germans, but it is hard to decipher what has and has not been discussed.
ESPN had an existing TV deal with the Big 12. That is one of the things the conference used to keep schools committed to the Big 12. Then, ESPN partnered with UT to form the LHN. This was one of the main factors aTm's current decision to jump ship.
I heard this morning that there is a provision in the contract with the Big 12 that makes the contract null if the conference drops below 10 teams.
There is also a provision in the SEC deal that allows the conference to negotiate a new deal if they expand the SEC.
This is just more evidence that the folks in Bristol, CT are running college football.

Can you imagine the outrage in the SEC if ESPN created the Crimson Tide Network?

I am not saying that their influence is all bad. I think this was a big part of the reason that the brakes were tapped for now. There are a lot of legal ramifications to deal with in these TV contracts.

Maybe a compromise here will be to give the Big XII time to add a new team (and guarantee they stay at 10 teams) before Aggie leaves?

I'm not sure it was that.
Dan Beebe sure seemed confident in saying that A&M could leave and be replaced by someone else, like Houston, without the league missing a beat.
It seemed to be more along the lines of the SEC not being able to pull in a 14th team IMHO.
