Why is it such a given that Florida is against adding FSU?

They already play every year.
They already compete for recruits.

Recruiting?
All other things equal, would you rather play football in the ACC or SEC?

Put on an orange a blue shirt for a minute and follow me.
You are now a die hard Gator fan. You have an in-state rival that is pretty powerful but still little brother. Little brother's fans are nagging gnats.
Why would you want to help little brother by helping him up the ladder? Oh, little brother didn't take the invite the first time because the SEC was too tough.
We just don't want to help them financially. Call it what you will but that's the reason most UF fans don't want them in.
I know it's hard for an LSU fan to see this. Actually, USC is really the only other SEC that can sympathize.

I would say history wise, regarding football, UF and FSU are equal.
Baseball, FSU wins
All other sports...who cares!
so...UF technically is scared!

We have one more Football Championship and the same number of baseball Championships.
You don't care about basketball but I don't blame you.

Not how I view it. If Ole Miss was in the SEC and State was in another conference looking in, I wouldn't want them in because I like having that over their head and it helps out in recruiting.

No, no. We are scared.

I wouldn't really consider FSU the little brother...and if so, we are talking about a 17 and a 16 year old.
Both were mostly irrelevant prior to adding coaches that became legends. Both kicked arse in the 90's once Miami faded away. Both had struggles, FSU at the end of Bowden's career, and UF fans just love Ron Zook.
UF held upper hand late in 2000's, but now is the tide turning back?
It seems pretty even to me.
I know title-wise, they are even in baseball, but FSU is a powerhouse...UF has had powerhouse-like years. But give them more time and I will call that equal. And FSU hasn't had a bad basketball history, but UF's two titles trump all.

Thanks so much for actually being able to see something from another point of view. MSU would feel the same way about ole miss and Auburn would feel the same way about BAMA and vice versa.

Eh. I understand you seeing it that way, and agree with you recently, but overall, I don't see the rest of the college football world seeing it that way. I see it as pretty even.

I do get that.

So it just boils down to you hating those bastards? I totally get that

Again you are looking at it from the wrong angle. We as UF fans/ alumni do not want to help FSU, in any way whatsoever, because we hate them.
It's simple really.

It's simple really.

That can only matter if you are afraid of what they will do with it. Only a massive irrational inferiority complex can justify this excuse. We are talking about FSU, not FIU, and they have access to all the money they need to compete. It would be better for them to be inside rather than outside.

As I said before, Slive was looking at adding FSU solely because he didn't want the state of Florida to have two ACC teams in it, as opposed to one SEC team.
That's it in a nutshell. Well that and he forsees FSU being on the rise, as evidenced that the Noles soundly beat the top two teams in the SEC east last year.

I get that...same reason I don't want A&M in. SEC is viewed on a pedestal now. It's prestigious. What the hell has A&M done to earn the right to get in? That team is rarely a Big 12 frontrunner. I could see Texas or OU coming in and doing well in all sports immediately. But TAMU's "style" in football doesn't work over here.
So I get your point. But i don't see them as 'little brother' with the exception of them being affiliated with the ACC.

This is really a huge strategic advantage that is underappreciated. FL needs to suck it up and be team player.

You again.
Inferiority yadda, yadda.
We hate them and don't want to help them. You wouldn't understand because you don't live it.
It's really not that hard. Who cares what they do with the money? We just don't want them to get the money. The free loading bastids can rot for all we care. Helping them is not rotting them. We want to see them suffer.
It must be nice to be the only school worth a shite in your state.

Frick being a team player. Frick FSU.
You must not understand the hate.

I get it. It's just that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. That's what you don't get. It's not that hard.

i sure as hell dont. my team respects its rivals, and its respect, not hate, that makes college football great.
