damn, some of you guys really get a stiffy for this shite huh? Seems kinda pointless to me and just runs the risk of tiring guys out over the season quicker... not sure when they officially quit it

I get that it gets the competitive juices going but I don't see how beneficial it is. If it serves to teach anything please correct me, I never played. I've heard the team does it all year and by the end of the season the toll on the body is enough with out the drill. If that is misinformation too, please inform me. I didn't mean anything negative about the coaches using the drill..

don't really get how its funny if they are doing it all season. I mean, I don't think NFL teams do much contact drill at the back end of the season...

Oklahoma lost their best defensive player Lewis for 8 weeks running the Oklahoma drill.

Meh, injuries happen. You have to teach people how to have contact with proper form. The drill teaches leverage and proper form. There are other drills that do this as well, but every team has some form of "contact" drill that they do.

gotcha. Do they do it all year? I've heard people criticize Miles for having so much contact in practices late in the year. That's all I was getting act. Guess fans and insiders were insinuating that's why we seem to get dinged up a lot at the end...

Yeah, inuries can happen to anyone at any time. The Big Cat Drill probably represents 1% of all the contact they endure throughout the season. It's a hitting drill, which is what most of football is about, and a huge emotional lift where guys can put their pride on the line. Helps establish leaders (kind of like figuring out alpha male among a pack of wolves).

We did this drill in high school and I loved it. I'm sure the players like it at LSU.

That's a different argument. Full contact practice just started a couple days ago, and the season is a month away. Contact in practice is one of those philosophical things that a lot of football people are split on. Some think it is necessary, others don't. As the season goes on, I think you can have less contact, but I am not a fan of cutting it out completely.

sweet post. I was ignorant about a topic. I admitted it in my first or second post. People think its more beneficial than not... Unlike most on this board I can accept being wrong. I definitely don't have any ego problems and the like
