Broadhead Challenge

I just bought some NAP Hellrazor broadheads.
I was online looking at reviews and i came across
this forum i linked above.

One of their members did a pretty thorough testing of 12-15 of the most popular broadheads on the market.

Very interesting. Bowhunters should enjoy this.

I keep wanting to buy new heads, but have zero reason to do so.

My Hoyt is set on 59lbs and I shoot NAP Hellrazors. Last year I shot a nice 8pt at 25 yards with a complete pass thru.

What kind of blood trail did it leave?

How far did it run?

My brother shoots hellrazors and likes them so far. I shoot muzzy but I'm about to switch to slicktrick after shooting a deer with my dad's bow last year.

I was surprised to not see muzzy in the test.

+1

I shoot the Muzzys with the bleeder blades. However, been thinkin about the g5 Montec which did well in this test. Just something about a one piece BH that is intriguing

I need to read this shite, I have like 6 mismatched broadheads, dunno what brand they are, an a couple look old as frick.

Quick hijack question, how do I decide which size to get? Right now all the broadheads/field tips I got with my bow are 125 grain.

I have a lot to learn

Most people that hunt white tails use 100 grain heads...

Don't get anything lighter than 85 grains. I shoot 100's just because that's what I've always shot. 125's usually have a wider cut but you'll loose some speed. If you can shoot em good it doesn't really matter.

I plan on sticking with these for the season, going get new arrows at Cabelas Wednesday. I'll probably get new broadheads next season, it seems like 100 grain are easier to come by, I might switch then.

Get your bow tuned right the first go round, if you are buying new arrows buy new heads and tune the bow for that set up...if you have 5 different heads you could play hell trying to get them all to fly the same. Trust me it will be worth the 35.00 to do it right the first time.

One piece cut on contact fixed blade broadheads.
I dont think i would switch to anything else..

Just dont want to chance my arrow deflecting
off a rib and not getting penetration with a mechanical..

Chances are i would have an opportunity at a big buck the day i change to a mechanical, and that POS doesnt open or something.

Well, I got 6 broadheads, 3 of which are newer and are the same. I'm buying a half dozen arrows, gonna put the field tips on three and those 3 broadheads on the other 3. At least that's the plan for now.

Since the license is gonna set me back an additional $80 I'm trying to not spend too much yet if possible

I hate mechanical heads. Too many horror stories. I see absolutely no advantage to them when modern fixed blade heads shoot just as well as field points.

Never heard of that actually happening. Convinced it was a made up possibility that no one has actually experienced.

I know a guy who had it happen with rage. Also problems with them opening in the quiver.

I've seen vortex screw ups first hand on quartering shots.

Not saying they are common at all because I only personally know of it happening 3 times with those two heads, but I'm not willing to risk it when I can split hairs with the slick tricks.

I have a close friend i hunt with shoot a good buck at 8 yards last year with the Rage 2 blades.

He is shooting a new bowtech that flies like 340 fps.

Anyhow he claims he hit the shoulder blade and he could tell the arrow didnt get much pentetration.

We found a little blood. Never found the deer.

Up to that point he would have been a spokesperson for the rage 2 blades, as he had killed several deer and had rediculous blood trails...

He has since switched to muzzy 4 blade.

This is just one of a bunch of stories...
