Back in the day when you were a high single or double digit capper, did you adjust your grip position much?
When I was playing a lot & playing well I found it easier to fix hitting it left or right by adjusting the grip position on the club.

Don't think I ever changed my grip to hit a shot nless I am in the trees and need to play a snap hook or something. Having said that I only really know how to play one shot and that is a hook ....
My fade shot is just a block/push at the target And a lot of times that even hooks

Quit trying to kill the ball is step 1 step two is that you are comming over the top.

taking it back on a more inside path reduced the slice for me
Many moons ago, I remember this fixing mine as well. I was told to keep my right elbow tucked close to my right side on the back swing. Then, I ended up hitting a bunch of hooks, so I had to find the balance between the two.

When I was playing a lot and playing fairly well we certainly didn't have the video technology that is available today. The one video I have of my swing confirmed that I had a flying right elbow.
That's the only similarity I had to Jack.

Just guessing but quit trying to knock the cover off the ball, swing at around 80% of your max swing speed.
Go with a smooth take away and try to make good contact with the ball rather than trying to swing for the bleachers.
Most swing errors come down to the basics:
1. Stance/posture
2. Grip
3. Ball postion
4. Take away
5. Downswing
Get some lessons from a reputable pro.

To fix a slice or hook you have to understand what makes the ball start where it does and what makes it curve. Closing the clubface at impact will not fix a slice. It will just make the ball start further left and the ball will still slice.
Without getting technical, clubface at impact will determine where the ball starts and path will determine whether the ball draws or fades. I know it goes against what some of the most known instructors teach (clubface curves the ball and path starts the ball), but they are wrong.
I am referring to the new ballflight laws which contradict what the PGA of America taught for many years. The new ballflight laws have been proven with trackman and high speed cameras. The video shows the ball will start where the club face is pointed regardless of swing path.
Ballflight Laws
I know this is probably too technical for many of the golfers here, but it helped me once I learned the new ballflight laws. I recommend getting lesson from an instructor that teaches the new ball flight laws and you will see improve much faster.
