In event of US default, how would individuals suffer?

if all of one's debts are at fixed rates of interest, where would be the suffering? or would it just come from the macroeconomic mess?

The suffering would come from wishing you'd ignored Dave Ramsey and borrowed even more at fixed rates.

While true on one side of the coin, being debt free and living within your means cannot be beat in any economy.

Living within your means, yes. But I will gladly borrow at a low rate and invest at a high one. That's how bankers get fat-cat rich, after all.

That is a good question. My spouse currently has student loan debt that has an interest rate tied to the US Treasury rate. In other words the rate goes up if the US rate goes up. My thoughts are that this affects us in a big way.

That being said, should we be scrambling to get these consolidated to a fixed rate?
