I'm hosting an event, that will consist of smoking some pork butt or shoulder and was curious as to, how mamy lbs, of meat I should cook per person. I was calculating a 1/2 lb. per person. From your experience, what is the real #? Thanks in advance. GEAUX TIGERS!! Thourgh Thick and Thin

Most BBQ joints that you can order out from will say 1 lb. of pulled pork makes about 5-6 sandwiches.

Cooked pork butt weighs about 2/3 of the pre-cooked weight, according to a BBQ spreadsheet that was posted some time ago.

I smoked a 9lb butt on saturday and had 8 adults over to eat on it that night. I ate on it all day sunday then had another 8 folks eat on it sunday evening. I could easily feed 8 more people with what I have left over still.

I like parties where I run out of food at the end so I would guess 1/3lb per person max. Get some good buns and make a good creamy coleslaw to go with it.

What is the smallest size butt you can get? I can't remember seeing one under 6 lbs.

It depends. Are most of your guests thick, or thin?

Depends on how far into the hood/trailer park you are willing to travel.
