In the scene where they are asking for volunteers who have flying experience, Randy Quaid bravely steps forward and offers his services. After explaining his flying experience (war, crop dusting), he goes on to explain that he was actually abducted by aliens years ago and wants to exact some revenge.

The problem I have is this; whenever he begins to explain his abduction, EVERYONE in the scene (other pilots, officers and even the president are still fvcking rolling their eyes and shaking their heads with skepticism in the background. They are in the middle of a war with aliens who clearly had been visiting Earth for decades. Does that bother anyone else?

No. Vivica Fox managed to escape the alien ship's blast by going into an open closet. It's a stupid movie if you start to think about it.

I didn't realize that entertainment had to be intectually stimulating to the degree that we analyze it like it's a new molecule.

You must be new to the Movie/TV board.

I've been entertained by his work in one way or another than any of Scorsese's "classics".

I'm still pissed that I wasted my life hours of my life on Taxi Driver, The Departed, and Shutter Island when I could have been doing more constructive activities like shaving my asshairs or watching cats sleep.

This bothers you more than Jeff Goldblum creating a virus that successfully interfaces with alien technology in an afternoon?

You can thank the editing room for that confusion.

In a deleted scene, he actually tries the virus out on the little alien ship that they have on Area 51 before they depart.

I think it's so funny that a lot of people needed that explained to them and assumed it was because the scriptwriters were idiots when in reality it was left out because they figured people could deduce that they tried the virus before they left. Also, excluding it left a little bit of suspense of whether or not they'd be successful.

But I'll take my logic out of here so people can bash a nonexistent plothole.

Deleted?

When?

I've watched that scene in every showing of Independence Day.

It wasn't in the theatrical cut. If it's been added to the tv airings, then I haven't noticed it.

I'll try and find the story about it.
