first time to knoxville, what area should we stay in? not really worried about driving distance to stadium, more concerned with proximity to bars to where we can either walk or take a short taxi ride, thanks

hampton inn in knoxville aint bad. honestly, there is not a whole bunch of tailgating there. the main drag has bars/restaurants. all the vol navy talk is a bunch of crap. cops pinch evryone for open containers, so be careful. hopes this helps

We're staying at the Knoxville Marriott about a mile from the Stadium.

There is a hotel that is right on the edge of campus or actually on campus. I think it's a Days Inn. Stayed there in 2001. It was close enough to walk to everything. But make reservations in advance or there won't be any rooms left.

I'm also trying to find a cheap hotel, but I don't want to stay on a bad side of town. I watched an Investigation Discovery show about a murder in Knoxville and they said the city is pretty much split into 2 sides. A nice one, and a very bad one.

Those are 6 miles from campus. I'm guessing the only ones with rooms available?

hotel has been closed since late 2003. there is one h0tel in fort sanders which borders campus, but it's very small and expensive on gamedays. there are a couple hotels downtown, but if you can;t find a room, there are a bunch of hotels in farragaut, which is 15-20 minutes from campus

the bad one is pretty small. i lived in knoxville for 7 years and you had to go out of your way to make it to the ghetto. stay west of downtown and you'll be fine

" theres west knoxville and theres the rest of knoxville"
Is what people say to describe the whole " split in two thing"
I'll be at the game too. But im staying at a friends dorm who goes to UT.
Most people who go to games at UT who arent from Knoxville end up staying in gatlinburg, as someone said earlier. I'm guessing thats for more of a vacation/game more so then just a weekend to see a game.

I wouldn't even stay in Knoxville. There isn't much to see or do other than the game. 30 min away you can get a cabin or condo in the mountains and spend a nice weekend there.
