Jefferson (Will replace Davey if he has his best year yet and LSU wins 10)

I agree completely with just me on his reply to this and my addition is did you see Rohan play? You guys know how I feel about JJ but I think anyone who saw Rohan play would tell you he is light years ahead of Jefferson. Ro may have thrown for more yards versus Bama in one game than JJ will throw against Bama in his entire career.

Weirdly I also agree with just me on the Herb Tyler comment. First how can you not have Tyler in the top 10 and second How in the hell do you have him in your bottom ten??????????

The top 3 in any debatable order should be b/w Hodson, B. Jones, and Tittle. It's funny to see how many people are ignorant as to what Tittle brought to the table. Of course he doesn't have the stats as some of the mediocre QB's in today's game but that is only because the game was completely different when he was tossing the pigskin around for the P&G. To this day he is the feature of one of the most iconic photographs in NFL history.

ETA - history side note: In the 1951 Draft Class out of 14 picks in the 1st round, three of them were from LSU, with Tittle being the highest with the #3 pick. The most of any school.

I've seen them both play and Davey is miles ahead; but that is based primarily on his senior season and he only started that one season. Several QBs on the lists in this thread (Flynn, Mauck, Davey) only had one great season. Who thought those three would be HOF type QBs before their senior seasons?

My comment was obviously made hoping JJ has a great season. He has a chance set a record for most career wins if he can pass Tyler (27) and Hodson (31) and set a record for most bowl wins by an LSU QB. And if LSU wins it all, he is definitely on the list somewhere.

I think that the younger Tiger fans are looking at statistics and not what the QB contributed to the success of the team. There has been an evolution from the 50's when defense was emphasized (even to the extent of punting on third down) and the running game was the prime method of advancing the ball. When Ray Graves took over as head coach at Florida in 1960, he said that their offense would be designed to be able to score on every play. The rest of the SEC coaches said he did not belong in the SEC.

Incidently, Florida beat LSU in Tiger Stadium 13 - 10 that year on a 66 yard run by the quarterback.

Russel never impressed me when he was in college, except for his arm strength, as he did not understand the game. I am afraid that our current starting quarterback is the same way.
