He's playing for an amature team that plays right around the corner from my house. They've switched his introduction at the plate recently. In the begining of the season it was "from Kecoughtan High School" and now it's "from LSU." I just found that interesting.

Well, shite. I wonder if Mainieri would pitch him and put him in the outfield. More likely pitch/DH, I gueuss.

I'm gonna say since that piece was written by the Newport News paper, for whom the Yankees are a lot bigger deal than LSU, it doesn't really tell you much. There isn't a quote from him one way or the other.

That said, I'd be surprised if the Yankees don't sign their 6th round pick with all the money they throw around. I imagine we've got a better shot at getting Eierman in here than Cave.

Yes it does. He says he wants to play for the Yankees. Doesn't sound like someone playing hardball. Also, if his pick only got about $300k last year, you'd think the y's would find that just lying around the office.
And yet he says he can't hit lefties. Every SEC team seemed to have 1 or 2 of those every week.

I know one thing for sure...the Yankees better pony up alot more than 300K in they are going to sign Cave.

Sounds like he's expecting the deal to get done.

I agree with this. I'm sure his number is probably triple 300K.

The fact that the Yankees took him in the 6th pretty much tells you that they are willing to at least be in the ballpark for what he is asking.
