Ameriprise Financial Advisors - Thoughts?

I entered my information into Dave Ramsey's web site for financial planning (college savings, retirement, long term insurance, etc. - things that I am interested in) and was surprised to learn that the contact I was provided worked for Ameriprise Financial.
I thought these guys were generally frowned upon by industry standards. Am I totally off base here?

In Ameriprise's defense, most of those complaints have to do with insurance policies and variable annuities.
It's not so much about the company IMO, but the individual advisor. Just do some research on your individual advisors that you meet with, make sure they don't have a bad record with FINRA, make sure they have a background in finance, make sure they are qualified, etc.
All that said, why do you need an advisor? Most people can handle their investments on their own with a little research.

It is all about

the individual advisor.

Unnecessary
If you have no desire to learn stocks as long-term investments, then minimize costs by calling a Vanguard advisor. I'm in no way affiliated with Vanguard; I just highly recommend them to people in your situation.
