This is a BIG NO NO! Reason its a no no is that when you have to get into the coop, you will have to walk thru shite, That is not the bad part. Once the birds are in the pen, after a couple months, they will eat all grass and you will have nothing but mud and shite. Now throw in one good rain and you have one hell of a mess! Once the birds start laying, you have to go and walk thru that mess every day to get the eggs.

Put your coop on the outside wall of your pen along with the nesting boxes on the back side of your coop to were you don't have to go inside the coop every day.

I want to build a portable coop, that I can drag around the pasture. I'm guessing big enough for 10-15 birds. How much room does a chicken need? I was thinking of framing it up with some tubing so I can hook the tractor to it and drag it. I'm thinking 20'x20' about 7' tall covered with some shade cloth, and then the "laying house" on one end.
