Hi,

I'm new to the board, as well as being new to Baton Rouge. I'm about to purchase a home and just found out that my homeowners insurance policy won't cover a house with knob and tube wiring. Half of the wiring has been updated but there are some active knob and tube wiring. Does anyone have an idea how much it will cost to rewire the knob and tube on a house that's raised? Does anyone have active knob and tube, and if so, who is your insurance company?

Thanks!

don't know the answer, but this should help lower the cost.

Is he an electrician or insurance broker? I'm leaning towards wanting to fix the problem rather than just find different insurance.

I have replaced it in my home before...along with a licensed electrician....my home was also above ground, but that didnt play a role in how we rewired it...

We made all the boxes up in the attic. Wire is expensive. Without knowing how much you have to rewire, and if you have to replace your panel I would say 3k. Thats a rough estimate

Renogiate the price of the house to include cost of rewiring the house.

Depending on the size of the home, a licensed electrician can rewire the house for around $3-4K

had same issue.

was able to get insurance through Bourg Insurance until I had wiring replaced. Cant comment on rewiring, i am gutting the house and having everything done from scratch.

We're going to try to get it replaced... anyone have a recommendation for a licensed electrician?
