re: Best Deal on Homeowner's Insurance
Posted by anewtiger on 6/22/12 at 6:06 pm to Chad504boy
I looked at a bunch of different sites/things last year, what I remember off the top of my head...
1. google State Farm and Katrina - there was a lot of coverage on Gulf Coast State Farm being sued (and losing) after refusing to pay out during Katrina. You really have to look at what division of the company you will be insured with... For example, Gulf Coast SF has a horrible record, but West Coast State Farm has a good record
2. I looked at the companies financial stabilities to pay out (Weiss and AM ratings)
3. Checked a lot of boards (First time moving to an area where hurricanes occur)
4. Got quotes and Liberty was the only who writes the whole policy (minus flood); everyone else I spoke to including my former insurance company of 15 years (Allstate) was going to write my wind & hail with Citizens... and I am not in a high risk area.
Out of everybody, Amica has the best reliability - just found this: LINK

Anybody have a good contractor in Baton Rouge?

I was inspecting my house and have found some rotted wood siding and trim, anybody know of a good honest contractor?
Don't know if Liberty Mutual is the cheapest, but they have the best record for paylng when things go wrong - which to me it the best deal.
Anyone have a good electrician?

Buying a house that has some wiring issues, main problem being is that the knob and tube that may need to replaced. Can anyone recommend an electrician that does a thorough inspection and good work?
I have always heard that it's not "if" but "when" with termites in the south. Just make to sure to keep a termite contract on the house.
We're going to try to get it replaced... anyone have a recommendation for a licensed electrician?

Is he an electrician or insurance broker? I'm leaning towards wanting to fix the problem rather than just find different insurance.
Knob and tube wiring
Posted by anewtiger on 6/19/11 at 10:29 am
Hi,
I'm new to the board, as well as being new to Baton Rouge. I'm about to purchase a home and just found out that my homeowners insurance policy won't cover a house with knob and tube wiring. Half of the wiring has been updated but there are some active knob and tube wiring. Does anyone have an idea how much it will cost to rewire the knob and tube on a house that's raised? Does anyone have active knob and tube, and if so, who is your insurance company?
Thanks!
