Shorts at Luke

Wanting to try this place out for dinner next weekend. Most likely I'll be walking around the quarter all day wit the wife and I was wondering if I could get by with wearing shorts and a button down or polo to dinner.

Sure why not. It seems as if dress codes have completely died off. I went to Ruth's last night and I couldn't believe the people that walked in looking like they have just played basketball or something.

I was just looking for something more casual. We'll be doing MiLa the night before and don't feel like dressing nice both nights for dinner.

While shorts in a good restaurant aren't for me, I have to say that Luke is pretty casual. You'll be fine.

I was ranting. Sorry. I think it's fine for Luke, especially since you said you'll have a nice shirt on and not a t-shirt.

No worries, I've seen my fair share of jerseys and ball caps at Ruth's. I just didn't feel like wearing slacks to dinner both nights and wanted to find some place I could get by in a pair of linen shorts and a decent shirt. I've head good things about Luke, and one of my friends said its a casual place. I just didn't know how casual.

Restaurants don't care anymore.

I definitely approve of linen shorts.

with the exception of a few old school places, dress codes aren't really enorced. especially when a restaurant is in a high traffic area for tourists

And seeing a guy wearing shorts at lunch. It doesn't bother me because I don't care about what you do, but for myself, I would feel inappropriate.

Oh and Luke you'll see everything from baseball caps and shorts to suits. It's a pretty casual setting.

I thought Commander's was strictly "No Shorts"?

They'll even remind you when making reservations that they have a no shorts policy, but the first guy I see walking out with a to go box a few months back was wearing linen shorts.

People are all over the place at Luke. It's basically in a hotel, so folks are dressed for whatever they're about to do or have been doing.
I just don't worry about what people are wearing unless they are revealing body parts I'd prefer not to see while dining. I don't get the big deal of folks who have a hissy fit because someone else is not in a suit. I'm there with my dining companions to enjoy the company and the food. I'd be more bothered by a cell phone conversation or the phone ringing all the time. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and don't look around if it bothers you.

Ditto. My only concern is for me, my date, and the person serving my food. I'm not saying I might not take a doube-take if you're wearing something "out of place", but it doesn't bother me in the least bit.
