Long time ago a Vietnamese girl brought to work some type of spring/egg roll homemade from her parents house. It was awesome but I haven't had any since. Any ideas for authentic Vietnamese food here in BR?

It was somewhat more see though with these clear chewy things inside. I have no idea what the hell it was but it was good.

Fried = Egg Roll
Clear = Spring Roll

egg roll is wrapped in won ton and spring roll is rice paper(I think).

It was definitely a spring roll. I'm pretty sure it was rolled with rice paper. I want to know what the clear stuff was in it. It's tough to even describe.

ETA: I just looked at a few pics and it was not completely see through. It was just a lot lighter than an egg roll is.

This is the clear stuff I was talking about! It does NOT represent the roll I'm describing though as this one is way too clear.

Got it I think...dried bean thread noodles? Do they become somewhat chewy after cooking? If so that's exactly what it is.

I can't wait togo try Little Saigon.

They r not authentic but the ones at whole foods are good if u need a quick fix. They have the clear noodles and come with either shrimp, chicken or tofu and a peanut dipping sauce.

I have also had some at Rama.

Also give Cafe Dang a chance. It's right down the street next to Vinh Phat. I've always liked their spring rolls.

I will thanks. I'm gonna bookmark this thread so I can come back and update it once I eat at both places.

Well for some random reason the thought of trying Vietnamese just popped in my head. Any suggestions outside of the spring rolls of dishes to try?

The pho is usually everyones favorite, including mine. But bun thit nUong is also good. If it's your first time I would go with the pho. Just add a little hoison and sriracha to it along with the vegetables they give you and you're good to go.

If you end up liking pho, everytime you have a hangover you'll crave it.

#10 with chicken at Little Saigon ...start with the app of spring rolls, and get an extra peanut sauce for your number 10. (its grilled chicken with shrimp fried rice and 2 egg rols) .. the shrimp fried rice is NOT the stuff you get at "China 1/Panda/King/Geat/Wall/Kitchen/Chef" type joints where you get a greasy entree with fried rice and an egg roll.

This shite is on anutha level.

Don't forget to go next door and get a smoothie.

Try the vermicelli dishes. Those are really good as well.

FYI, New Vietnamese restaurant just opened on airline Hwy near Cedarcrest called Twilight Cafe. I stopped in but didn't have time to eat there but they said they have authentic rice paper spring rolls.
It looks worth checking out.

If you work downtown the Charlie's Coffee in the Main Street Market has great pho and pretty solid spring rolls.
