Boudreaux's brand Crawfish Tail Meat. Product of China?

Went to the new Albertsons in Denham Springs last weekend and saw a special for a pound of frozen cleaned crawfish tails for $4.99. I know the price of these tails is usually around $7 to $10 depending on when and where you buy them. I like to use these tails when I'm doing a crawfish bisque or a number of other dishes. Well, I got pissed off when I just opened up a bag of these beautiful bugs this morning because in real small print it says "product of china". Had I known that these were imports, I would have never bought them because I am a firm believer in buying Louisiana products when I get the chance. I guess I should have known since the price was so cheap. My question to the F&D Board is this. What are the new laws in place regarding Chinese products sold in Louisiana regarding the crawfish and caftish? I'm ignorant on this one. Any advice or knowledge you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Same as Bernards crawfish tails that are sold at Wal-Marks.

I prefer to buy Louisiana ones but the Chinese ones are fine in a pinch.

It's a matter of priorities IMO.
What do you value? For many people, food takes a back seat to many thing in their life that are non essential like entertainment, etc.
For myself, I would much rather spend my money supporting Louisiana and getting fresh crawfish that are much better and full of flavorful fat than supporting the Chinese simply because it's half the price. I mean, most people maximize what car they can afford, what house they can live in, what clothes they can afford, and what they can afford to spend on entertainment, and things of the sort, but when it comes to food we have somehow put such a low emphasis on what we eat to live and how it tastes in our mouths and the enjoyment that comes from that that we are more than willing to nickle and dime it to death.
Again, I believe it all gets down to where your priorities are. Mine are with food to live, food to enjoy, and a sustainable Louisiana, and that's where I prefer my money go because I live here.

Yeah, there's a couple of different brands that sound like they're from LA but are really from China. Obviously that deceptive marketing worked on you (and my brother too, who recently bought some of these for me).
Also, most of them are 12-oz packages, not 16-oz, like most true Louisiana crawfish packs.
tetu, I'd never heard that about some of them being shipped from LA to China to be peeled. Even Boudreaux's/Bernard's taste different than pure LA crawfish to me though, like other Chinese crawfish.

You'll pretty much never find LA crawfish for under $7 a pack. That should be your sign right there. I think the cheapest I've ever see LA crawfish was around $8.50, and that was on special. I usually expect to spend $10 a pound when buying crawfish.
FWIW, I am all for a sustainable LA, and think everyone should move toward buying the best food for your body, and not necessarily your wallet.

I've seen those -- glanced at the package and it said Product of China right on the front above the Net Wt info. Got to look at those close, cuz finding LA tails for $5 is extremely rare. $10 seems to be a good price this year.

According to their website they are a "USA-based" distributor, but the products' country of origin is China... that being said, on the "Contact Us" link, it lists the name of a Mr. Karl Turner in Westwego, LA, and they have storage facilities in New Orleans and some other states.

So, while they're not local crawfish (and I avoid Chinese when I can, but who knows what you get if you buy crawfish dishes at restaurants, really?)... there does appear to be some local benefit in their Customer Service and storage facilities being in-state? Could anyone justify their locavorism tendencies by that?
