I got bored today and decided to look at what happens to teams after they lose the conference finals. I looked at every conference finals loser since the 16 team NBA playoff structure came into place in 83-84. For the 2 teams in each year I then looked at the next 3 years and recorded what round of the playoff they reached. Here are some of the results and interesting things I noticed.

Notes on Picture:
HIT - in 3 years got farther than the C Finals
PUSH - Got to the C Finals again and nothing more.
MISS - Did not get to C-Finals again in 3 years.

That only 12 of the 25 champions viewed in this manner got a ring after losing in the finals 3 years before.

If anything seems amiss ask me.

The biggest question is, where might Durant and the loser of the east wind up after this is all said and done. Nearly 50% of teams don't make a return trip in 3 years.

Forgot the Heat made the ECF in 05. Amazing what DWade has done for that franchise.

Off topic, but when did the NO Hornets switch to the western conference?

If I'm not mistaken it was the 04-05 Season.

Bump for the Bulls loss. Which one of the young teams bounced( Bulls or Thunder) do not make it back to the conference finals in 3 years? My guess is the Thunder some crazy Durant/Westbrook clash where Westbrook leaves and Durant mirrors KG's struggles to make it past the first round.
