We are cooking gumbo in a turkey fryer for a crawfish boil this weekend. The gumbo calls for 40 cups of water. How much rice should we cook to go with the gumbo?

A 6-lb bag? 10-lb? Thanks in advance!

How many people do you plan on eating this 40 cup gumbo? That should feed say 20 folks who eat pretty good.

You'll have too much with the 10 pound bag, but rice is cheap and its better to have too much.

ETA: Short Grain FTW

Depends on the rice to gumbo ratio of the individual. I have seen people eat so much rice in their gumbo, it looks like rice and gravy. I prefer a lot of gumbo and a little rice.

Oh and ALWAYS good Louisiana long grain only.

Nah, but it makes me wish I could see the family reunion from their graduation on their class trip.
