Scottsdale...lovely town, but bring a sack lunch.

Our first night there we decided to stay on the resort property (Intercontinental Montelucia) and eat at the '4 Diamond' Prado Restaurant.

It was good, but it wasn't anything memorable. We started with MOZZARELLA DI BUFULA Local Tomatoes, Basil, Sea Salt, New Oil. The wife liked this very much(it was her choice), but, honestly, this whole concoction is just not my cup of tea, so I can't say that it wasn't good - it's just not what I would choose to eat.

For dinner, I had the NY Strip with Creamed Greens, Pommes Puree, Oregon Mushroom, and Rioja, while the wife had lobster with Oregon Wild Mushroom Risotto, Mascarpone, Fennel, Tarragon, and Oregon Black Truffle. Again, it was good, but it didn't make me sit back in my chair and smile.

Dessert was a shared bread pudding which, considering our location, was actually pretty good.

I had a couple of glasses of Row 11 Pinot Noir - and it was excellent. I will be looking for this here in BR.

The second night, with some friends, we decided to try the Tee Pee Restaurant. Someone on here recommended it, and a couple of people at the resort did the same. It's a neat little place that just about everyone who is famous/semi-famous has eaten at (there are pictures all over the walls to let you know who's been there).

As for the food - none of us were thrilled with it. It was okay, but considering that we've all eaten our fair share of Mexican food over the years...we were left wanting more. The problem was that everything seemed pretty bland. I had the chicken enchiladas with a green sauce, black beans, and rice...meh.

Good atmosphere, but the food was just so-so.

Third night - another local referral. The Rokerij. I've heard this place called one of the best restaurants in Arizona...ummmmm...I hope not.

First of all, it was 102 degrees that day, and when we walked in we were greeted by a lit fireplace and an open grill kitchen. The frick? A lit fireplace? It was uncomfortably hot while we waited to be seated.

After we finally found a table, and a slight breeze from the A/C, our biggest obstacle was the waitress. She was one of those that spoke as if she was at the library and afraid to get in trouble for talking to loud. But, her best line of the night came when she was asked what they were known for - "Well, we're known for our seafood, our steaks, our pasta, our bread, and, well, we're pretty much known for everything." Uh, okay...

At that point, I had been drinking margaritas all day, so I stuck with that. The wife and I split the 24 oz. Porterhouse, which was okay. I don't remember what we got for app's, and we did not get dessert.

Lastly, on the final night, we decided to go with a national chain. It was a long day, so we decided to stick close to where we were staying. Unfortunately, Fleming's was not able to seat us until 9PM, so we went to J. Alexander's.

Not much to say, other than it was what you'd expect from J. Alexander's. Everything was good. The filet was good. The wine was good.

It just sucked that out best flavored meal of the trip was from there. The burger at TPC Scottsdale is pretty good, though...

In closing, Phoenix/Scottsdale is one of my favorite places to visit, but I will only be eating at chains the next time I go.

Try the D&D......trust me. Chicken soft tacos. They also make good breakfast.

Eta....sorry about the bad food experience.
