I know most of the posters here think that Louisiana consists of Lafayette and anything south, but should I be worried about the ouachita flooding?

"most" is a little strong, just a few of these pricks actually think this and its ok BC it gives me something to laugh at
I'm from this area and if levees hold it'll be backwater in areas that typically have water most years, if they bust who knows?

I heard that in the 20's or 30's when it flooded, it was all the way to my house in Swartz. I have a hard time believing this will happen but wanted more opinions. Thanks for your response.

Send an e-mail to dale661 AT gmail DOT com, and I will send you a map of the proposed flooding in that area. I don't want to hot link it here because the bandwidth will be eaten up. If anyone else wants to host it and has the bandwidth, I can send it to you.

Yep, that's what I have! Thanks, Fishwater!

Word has it that the MS River came all the way to the North end of Wham, just past Hart's Corner on 134 at the train tracks. As long as your house is on the Swartz side and not the Collinston side of the parish line, you will be fine even if TSHTF.

If your property or business is anywhere near a levee you should be concerned. We just don't know at this point.

I live close to the same area and have been looking into the situation myself. There are numerous stories is all I gathered.

From my understanding, Swartz and portions of Monroe could be affected. I live in West Monroe and the area I live supposedly will not be hit by flood waters.

My grandfather used to tell me how you could literally take a boat straight from where we lived (north Caldwell parish) all the way to Vicksburg. In Columbia there's a bar called The Watermark Saloon that has a black line painted around 3-4 feet high where the water reached (there are a few pictures still around that corroborate this).

Damn, that's pretty close to my house. I live off of 139 about 3 miles from harts corner. My grandmother said it was on stubbs Vinson, which is where I live. Of course the levee systems weren't as good then as they should be now.

Thanks GeauxT. I couldn't think of the name of that hill for the life of me last night.

quote:It's kinda hard to believe, but, it's not a hill at all.. A glacier moved through there and cleared out all that low land from Wham to the east and sorta made a trough out of that area.. The "Red Hill" is just basically the OLD edge of horizontal, if you know what I mean? Oh, and BTW, I was not around when reported glacier went through there...
name of that hill

my great grandmother came to Swartz well before the flood of '27. granddaddy has talked to me allot about the old days. I miss those talks and having a few cold beers with him. in '27 he said that you could go down hwy 80 to Crew Lake and git in a boat and ride form there to Vicksburg, but Swartz was fine.
