Monte Sano Bayou

My parents and grandmother live in North Baton Rouge around Redemptorist. Monte Sano Bayou drains into the canals that run around this area. In the last 2 days, these canals have filled halfway with water. WAFB and WBRZ have not mentioned Monte Sano at all. My mom asked a question about it last night on wafb.com and no one from wafb answered her. One person commented and wafb deleted the comment. I heard that Exxon is working on something to stop the flooding.
Does anyone know what is going on? Why are they downplaying the seriousness of this? Should we be packing shite?

I took these pics yesterday at lunch crossing Monte Santo bayou at lunch.
Exxon cannot do anything about an unregulated waterway.Tell your folks to please have a contingency plan in action because I know for a fact that Exxon is worried about it too.
We are working some backflow contingency engineering for them as I type this.

Do you know if there is anything they can do to stop the outflow of water into the canals?
There is one behind the house and I have watched it fill half way up in 2 days.

XOM has property along MS Bayou. They build up as to keep water from their equipment. As a few other plants(Formosa, etc) along GSU road come into effect. Will make a call and see what I can find out.
I know a few people that might have some answers.

quote:only info I have right now is that the powers that be over there are VERY CONCERNED and are not concerned about what kind of money it takes to prevent their tank system along Scenic HWY. from becoming inundated.
If you get any information please let me know.

That is good news. Again, thanks for the update. My family is freaking out.

In this picture the water in Monte Sano is at 54'. This is right in front of the airport. I'd say if your family's house doesn't flood in a large rain event then they should be fine.
ETA: Just my slightly educated guess. I'm a landscape architect, not a hydrologist or engineer.

They almost flooded in 1969 when the canals backed up from heavy rain. They have never flooded from a rainstorm. From what I understand, once the canals fill, the water will come up in our yards. I hope this isn't the case, however.

For sure. I'm only an expert on this short section of the stream. I'm sure Exxon knows what they're talking about 4 miles down stream.

Ok, projections are a 6ft. rise to go on the river. What we have now is around a 41.6 mark with around a 6ft. rise. There is some talk of rain for the weekend. Like with anything else, conditions change. Will keep up to date if anything comes up.

Is that with Morgana at 30%?

This is what the river people around MS are getting ready for. This like I said is subject to change.
The river in BTR is still on a rise at around 1ft./day.

I have a friend that lives in De Gray state park outside of Hot Springs. They have been holding the lake at flood stage not to cause further issues downstream but she says they are fixing to let floodgates open. This lake is part of the Ouachita I believe.
