I know there are exceptions here and there, but it seems like the vast majority of LSU players that have been FT starters have at least had the chance to play in the NFL. Even players that haven't been drafted have typically signed in FA and had the opportunity. The exceptions that come to mind are C. Black, L. Hitt, and Charles Scott and probably J. Eugene this year. (TT will be a FA signee).

It just seems that the vast majority of our players at least have the opportunity at the next level (even if they do eventually get cut).

Would you agree with this?

no, not at all... please link your info that says every starter has at least had an opportunity. if your reasoning is correct about 15 or so rookie players every year are on rosters??

ETA: i get what you're saying, that in essence you have a shot to get a shot. but the same can be said for virtually every big time program in the U.S. not just the SEC even.

Now that LSU is annually competing within the Top 10% of all CFB programs, I think this is definitely true. There are no guarantees, but if you have the pre-reqs (physical size and measurables), you are going to get a look over someone from say, Colorado State.

The NFL reminds me of blue chip companies and elite academic schools. The guy that graduates at the bottom of his Stanford MBA class STILL has a better chance of getting his Goldman Sachs application looked at as opposed to the Pepperdine MBA with more experience and better grades.

LSU has 22 starters a year

Dispersed between 3 classes..that is 7-8 full time starters coming out per graduating class.

So you have about about FULLTIME starters coming out each year,

LSU has had 37 players drafed over the last 6 years, not counting free agents.

That is pretty good odds.

Exactly.

And I seriously doubt that every major college football team has that kind of success.

Looking into next years graduating class:
Jefferson--no shot
Ron Brooks--should get a look at special teams at the least
Ryan Baker--probably late round or UDFA, but should have a look. He is just on the small side.
Will Blackwell--Probably UDFA
Josh D.--Good chance at being drafted in later rounds
Stephon Francois--Will probably be a UDFA, but maybe not. He might not even be a starter by year end.
Karnell Hatcher--It will all depend on his success at OLB this year, another UDFA candidate
T-Bob Hebert--He isn't a true starter. No shot.
Deangelo Peterson--should be a middle round draft pick.
Brandon Taylor--Should be a middle round draft pick if recovers from injury.

Overall, next year is an extremely weak year for our graduating class. This could potentially break the trend of LSU sending starters to the pros. However, LSU is loaded with underclassman that will be the stars in the coming years.

Murphy will sign with the Carolina Panthers as an UDFA, so even though he never even really made an impact, he will going to get a look at the NFL. Good special teams cover guy that can catch the ball out of the backfield a bit.

I dont think it helps being from LSU per se. It may help competing against the best - the SEC.

What does a chicken processor like Perdue have to do with football? Their skinless chicken breasts are okay, but why did you mention them?

Or did you mean Purdue?
