We have some real morons on HT right now.
We're really complaining about the job Monty Williams has done?

look, i wasn't sold on him most of the season, but he has gotten this team to play up to a great Laker team this postseason, that beat us bad 4 times in the regular season
all without David West
Seriously.
The guy is so overmatched in this series it's not even funny, yet it's by no fault of his own. He's going up against arguably the best coach in NBA history coming off of back to back championships led by one of the best to play the game. On paper this team DOMINATES us at every position besides PG.
3-2 is unbelievably good considering the challenge he faces.

HOLY frick PEOPLE.
He's in his first season going up against a guy with more rings than fingers, in a 3-2 series against the two time defending champs, without his best scorer. And led one of the biggest defensive turnarounds in history.
Again...HOLY frick PEOPLE!!!
He's a good defensive coach. He's pretty weak offensively. The defensive turnaround compared to last year has a lot to do with Chris Paul being healthy, the Ariza addition, and Collison and Thornton being so shitty together at defense last year.
Now, he is part of the reason the Ariza trade went through and that Thornton didn't see much playing time (which improved our D), and he's a good defensive-oriented coach, however his rotations are definitely questionable at times and he's not that great of an offensive coach right now.
But if you would continue to read the thread, you would see me say that he's young and in his first year, and will get better just like any young player. He'll become more well rounded with experience.

Our team is fighting, but that has more to do with the pride of select few players than the coaching. Don't get me wrong I like Monty but it's hard to justify his rotations.

1 in these playoffs...
Im guessing he'd look pretty good with Doc or Phil's roster

90% of the country thought we would get swept. We would be severely overmatched against the Lakers even with David West but we lost him and a ton of offense with him. The fact that we are at game 6 with the 2 time champs is enough reason to be excited looking forward if West and CP3 stay. Monty and Dell have made a huge turnaround with this team in just 1 season and there's no reason to think it won't get even better when they are given time. In my opinion, we are one good player away from being a tough contender every year.

Monty Williams looked more like Montel Williams tonight.

Collison is being defended by Derrick Rose, Jack is being defended by Derek Fisher...
i'd take Collison every day of the week over Jack... and it sure would be nice to be able to sit Paul with a lead and actually be able to protect it/add to it....
when Paul leaves the game right now, we're screwed... it's not a matter of IF we will relinquish our lead, it's HOW MUCH...
We didn't trade them for one another. If we didn't trade DC, we'd still have Posey, and we wouldn't have gotten Ariza.

You are a moron. We got rid of Posey in that deal also and brought in Ariza.
Ariza has done a great job guarding Kobe and has some really great offensive games also.
Also guys like Thornton and Collison wouldn't really close the gap on our real disadvantages in this series.
The biggest problem in the series is really guarding Artest as we don't have anybody to really guard him outside of Ariza (already guarding Kobe). Then it seems Okafor can't rebound for shite or guard the bigs in this series.
Both Thornton and Collison are undersized and wouldn't necessarily be much more reliable than what we got.

Are we allowed to say that the Hornets defensive improvement has more to do with personnel decisions in the off-season than Monty's defensive scheme?
ETA: Yea, I know Monty had a hand in some of those deals.

monty has done a great job this season...i think he should have done better with thornton, and i hope he can keep this tough defensive mentality in place long-term. but for the season, he definitely gets an A
Posted on 4/27/11 at 1:17 am to BayouBengals03
To an extent, sure. But to say that this team isn't head and shoulders better than they were last year as far as scheme and accountability go would be naive.

They are.
But I think we were so bad last year because of Paul's injury and having Collison and Thornton play a ton together, that this year's defensive improvement seems a bit better than it actually is.

i never said, nor insinuated, that they were part of the same deal...
and i'll stick to taking Collison over Jack.... Jack has done Jack-shite, other than a shot he pulled out of his arse last game, and when Paul comes off the floor i have zero confidence that the 2nd team can keep a lead or eat into one.... maybe Collison wouldn't be the answer, but i KNOW Jack isn't and that's good enough for me....

link those season stats for me, bro... i'm sure you have them handy...
and those stats are misleading.... for example, if player A hits .500 from the 3 pt. line only taking 20 threes, is he better than player B that hits .450 taking 50 threes?
his average is better, but he hasn't taken as many shots... same concept applies to your statistical analysis...
