QB situation still not settled and could be a catastrophe if not managed properly.
3 leaders lost on defense, I don't care how talented the players are that's three leaders you have to replace.
Tough schedule, Oregon, especially early, Oregon at neutral site, MSU and West Va at snakepits, and a tough trio of Fla, Tenn, Aub with Bama waiting after bye week.
Ole Miss and Ark are always tough border games.
I sure hope this is not another hoops/baseball meltdown on the horizon

Chavis' defenses have trouble containing mobile QBs. If we cannot match their scoring, Oregon will beat LSU. With the X Factor at QB, LSU may be in for some pain in Cowboys Stadium. I hope not...

It is spring and the season for delusional optimism. I think it is natural after the baseball and basketball seasons that we have had to fall into one of two categories relative to 2011 football: (a) gonna win at least 10 games and maybe the SEC or MNC, or (b) gonna lose a bunch of games and implode.

The likely scenario is probably somewhere in between. This football team should be better offensively than last year's team and probably a little worse defensively...at least early on due to inexperience and schedule.

People forget that we were inches from losing to UNC and lost to UT before a penalty saved us. People also forget that West Virginia gave us a scare, that we barely beat the worst UF team in a decade or more or that McNeese played us close. People also forget that Miles buyout was the topic of choice not only on the rant but in media circles as well locally and even nationally last season. However, we did play the eventual national champ close and beat a very good Bama team (and handled with relative ease a MSU team that turned out pretty good).

I think this year's Tiger's are probably a 9-3 team....maybe 10-2 or 8-4.

My biggest fear right now is that they lose to Oregon and either MSU or West Virginia to start off the year.

If that happens, the fact that Miles is unfireable for roughly the next five years will be a very hot topic. This is especially true given the current state of LSU Men's athletics in the other major sports.

It's April, and already negativity for a team with a top 5 preseason ranking. Have a little hope and faith.

I really think LSU makes a statement in the Oregon game.

If you did not see any improvement in the spring game you are an idiot. JJ will probably never light up the field through the air, but his throws were markedly more accurate and his mechanics are improving. 4/14 horrible stats for sure, but at least 4-5 of those were broken up by our amazing secondary. He had confidence and was leading his team. That's what we need from JJ. We don't need Peyton Manning playing QB to have a stellar season.

No! The Cap One bowl, like Alabumble last year.

Who's gonna be #1...Bama again?

True but we need a good bit more than JJ circa 2010 to do so!

LSU has some damn strong fans.

Who else could be in complete melt down mode in April.

For sure, but if he just has his 2009 numbers with less sacks we'll be in a great position.

The expectations are gonna be the undoing of Les Miles. The fans are being unrealistic and unfair in expecting a National Title this season. What is expected out of ZMett is also unfair to him. He is being billed as the savior of the program. So many fans are convinced Mett is gonna take over the starting spot next year. JJ is Les's starter and always has been. He has made it clear he likes JJ's ability to run. If Mett starts then that means the team has played very poorly and probably is out of the National Title conversation. I am expecting a West Title next year and an SEC Title within 2 years. A National Title would be a bonus. I am trying to be realistic. I am hoping for a National Title but anything less it seems will leave alot of fans (including Positigers) disappointed.

Why just hope? Take a look at the NC game then look at LSU in AU's spot. Cam wasn't a huge factor and AU's D isn't super but were decent at the end of the year.

If you saw accuracy then you are fricking high. Do you not realize we will play against good corners in the fall and their teams will also be blitzing? Throwing the ball at the feet and 4 yds behind Peterson should never happen with zero pressure. Shep catching passes behind him and underthrown passes to randle have zero to do with defense. We are talking about slants, crossing routes, and fades. It was the same shite as last spring and last fall. I know I know, he is still young.

I personally dont expect him to be a savior. I dont think LSU needs a savior at qb just a competent player who can read the defense, hit open receivers and go thru progressions instead of taking off and running if the first option is covered. I cant say I know for an absolute fact Mett can do that but I think it is a pretty safe bet if given the reps he will be able to do it by the first game. I do know that JJ is seriously lacking in the above three and you would think a player who has been in the program as long as he has would be much better at those things.

Mett doesnt need to be a savior. Being better than JJ doesnt seem difficult and a competent qb is something Mett definitely has more chance of becoming than JJ.

Exactly. People bash lee but if that team in 08 had a defense at all then he would still be starting. I am not a lee promoter, in fact I think he is a weak option also, but atleast we scored points with him. I would take 2 pick sixes per game if we could score nearly 40 per game. Instead of 3 and outs all night and putting so much pressure on the defense. Mett can not possibly be worse, but he could be alot better.

I didn't see great accuracy, I saw improved accuracy. Big difference. I saw improved mechanics. I didn't see any change in decision making really.

Without the 4 or 5 swatted passes jj would have been possibly 8 9, maybe even 10/14. Much better imo. The world is not falling out from under us. The minor improvements I saw were from just a few practices with Kragthorpe. I imagine JJ will get better over the summer and fall and come Oregon I think we can possibly see a markedly improved JJ (again, not a world-beater, but more consistency. Much like his 09 season).

And the Peyton Manning reference was not a comparison of PM and JJ, so I don't see what your problem is with them being in the same sentence.
