If we fail to make a regional/SECT AND there is no improvement in 2012

Would you support removing Manieri?

No he will get a pass by pitching JJ next year

If next year's team flops in the SEC like this year and does Not make the postseason, then I think the seat gets warm going into 2013. Being that Manieri is Skip's Boy, I think Manieri is on solid ground for probably another 3 seasons assuming no outside problems erupt to embarrass the program. I know Skip is no longer AD but he is the Godfather of LSU baseball and as long as he has influence, Manieri is fairly safe through at least 2013. Hopefully, this will all be mute once Manieri realizes he needs to recruit better assistants to teach these players the fundamentals. No postseason next year...could be some rumblings.

paul mainieri is now 199-100-2 in his fifth season.
it's possible that mainieri's record could be worse after five years than that of laval.
that national title, which is a great accomplishment is really the only thing that sets the two apart.

Can't compare the 2 based on what they
started with (same reason u can't compare Saban and miles records)...smoke started with 5/10 nc...pm started with a program ran into the ground by smoke

I understand that is partially pm's fault but the fact that we have top recruits year after year commit and then a couple weeks before school starts leave and go pro it puts pm in a tough position. We are getting the top players in the country to commit, we just are not getting enough of them to actually come to LSU... idk what you do to fix that problem, but it is definitely a big part of the past couple seasons problems

quote:right now, the program appears to be comparable to what it was when smoke was let go. very frustrating play with little sign of improvement. everything about this team is paul's and they stink. paul has had success in omaha where laval didn't. that's the difference and why more people aren't calling for his head.

Absolutely 100% I think it is pretty obvious we won't make any type of postseason play this year. If we don't improve next year to the point we are hosting a regional, I think no doubt we need to thank PM for 2009 and let him go elsewhere

Part of me thinks Maineri is the right fit and part doesn't.
I think Maineri did a selfish, but smart move when he arrived in '07 by offing Waguespack, Wise, Bogany, Lara, and Olvey (remember Olvey left Notre Dame to get away from Maineri
). Surely, those guys could have stayed around and helped LSU rather than hinder...Wise would have for sure. Maineri, in my opinion 9and I could be wrong) made that move to advocate that Smoke was ruining the program and the only way for him to succeed was to rebuild. Maineri, in effect, was buying himself some time because he knew what LSU fans would do and how they'd feel if he'd lost games with a lot of returning starters.
Smoke had one bad year in '06 and he was robbed of regional play. LSU finished 8th in the SEC and won a game in Hoover. Then, State - who did not make it into Hoover - got the 8th bid to the NCAA regionals. Aside from that Smoke got LSU to Omaha twice. In 2002, Smoke took a decent sqaud over to Houston to get shelled by to what I still consider this day as the best 1-2 combo rotation in baseball in Rice. In '03-'04 we lost to 4 great teams. In '05, we got to the SEC title game and lost and then lost to Rice at our regional. In '06, we should have been playing at someone's regional. The NCAA likely looked at it and knew they couldn't justify giving us a host as a 3 seed (despite the temptation to make money) and thus just kept us out for good because what good could we do for them playing out in Tempe or Wichita.
Smoke alienated the fan base and didn't look the part. He washn't Skip's identical twin. We axed him and brought in an outsider. That outsider has given us 2 CWS apperances in 4 years. 6-3 vs. 0-4 and one c'ship vs. none (along with 3 titles in Hoover vs. none) is pretty much where we're at. Yes, we should keep Maineri through '12, no matter. Sanchez and Davis gotta go, though. One of 'em does anyway.

if he keeps the same assistant coaches he has now next season and the same thing happens yes...if he makes mass changes after this season with his coaching staff I would give him to the 2013 season with that season being a make or break season...
