Pretty interesting article if you are a Pac-12 fan. They are expecting the Pac-12 to sign a TV contract worth around $220 million/year, launch a Pac-12 network, and potentially partner with Cisco, Apple, and Google for expanding into the mobile market. From the sounds of it, the Pac-12 is taking bids right now at the perfect time, so they are really going to try to take advantage of everything.

quote:

AJ Maestas of Navigate Marketing, which has done media rights deals for Arizona State and Ohio State, told me that he has revised his estimates for a Pac-12 TV deal to approx $220 million annually, up from $175 million six months ago. That equates to approx $18.5 million/yr for the schools and would be the equivalent of a walk-off grand slam for Scott.

quote:

The network is a done deal and will be launched in Aug. ‘12, in conjunction with the league’s broadcast partner.

quote:

Conference officials have met with executives from Apple, Google and Cisco.

Arrangements with the tech giants would provide the conference with the flexibility to change its distribution platforms as new technologies and consumer behavior evolve.

“We have a lot of alums and students who are very technologically savvy,” Scott said, “and we’re planning to make a big commitment to distribute our content through mobile networks.”

Pac-10 pretty much owns every other conference in national titles, but most of them occur in the Olympic sports, not necessarily the well known ones like basketball and football.

Such as indoor track which I believe Oregon just claimed back to back National Titles in.

I think USC has a ton of Water Polo NC's to their name.

The numbers I found on it:
Pac-10 - 388 national titles
Big 10 - 249
SEC - 168

The top 3 Winningest programs in terms of NCAA nc's in the entire country are Stanford, USC, and fucla.
You'd think Ohio state, Texas and schools with huge student populations would be at the top of that list but I guess not.

As a Pac-10/Oregon fan, I only care about football and basketball (baseball a tad).

I could be mistaken but I heard talk of getting those "Olympic Sports" from the PAC 12 more exposure as part of this new network's programming. USC has always been big on the Olympics, somebody with the time and inclination can do the exact stats, but I believe SC holds the record for students in U.S. colleges with the most Olympic medals.

Either way, more money is good for the conference as a whole.

The Pac-10 can keep their rowing, crew, and badminton national championships. We'll win the sports that people actually give a frick about.
