I keep hearing how good the series is (2004).

So I know there is the original BSG, the mini series, the 2004 series, and Caprica.

I want to start the 2004 series.

Where do I start? With that? Or the mini series?

You can thank Firefly for reminding me how much I like Science Fiction. I'll write something about it when I finish it.

TIA

Start with the mini series and then go into the show. Be careful though for example season two is season 2 and 2.5 so you don't want to miss an entire half a season.

Well Caprica takes a place before BSG...shouldn't he watch that first?

Never saw Caprica but I'm a fan of watching shows in the order they were put out. Watching caprica first would be like watching Star Wars episodes1-3 before 4-6.

The miniseries is basically a three-hour pilot... And contains a lot of necessary information.

I wouldn't even waste my time with Caprica, but if you must, watch it after BSG. It spoils several plot points of the main series.

Well...

If you were just coming to Star Wars and had never seen it before, why would you want to know what happens to Anakin? Wouldn't that ruin the 1-3 which you had yet to watch?

Definitely start with the miniseries then go from there. I'm jealous. I wish I could watch them all again for the first time.

As much sense as that might make it doesn't make any sense. You watch movies in the order they were released. That's how it works

I disagree. If I were to introduce someone to Star Wars I would watch them in order 1-6. That way you get the entire story of Anakin in chronological order.

Also, Firefly was awesome. Can't believe it didn't even last past one season.

I got about half way through the 2nd season before I lost interest. It didn't help that everything I read suggested the ending was terrible and that the writers just made up stuff week to week. It's on netflix so maybe I'll get bored enough to watch it again someday.

The fact that you would introduce someone to Star Wars by showing the prequels is both inhumane and unfair.

I know I'm considered strange because minus JarJar I actually enjoyed the prequels.

There are really great things in each of the prequels.

Thanks for the help on BSG guys!

Cannot wait.

I can't think of anything I'd consider great in Episode II.

But back on topic, BSG is fricking awesome. Enjoy.

Just go with as they were released, that's the safest bet.

Miniseries
Seasons 1 & 2 (and 2.5)
Webisodes
Season 3 and 3.5
Razor
Season 4 and 4.5
2nd Movie
Caprica

I thought Razor was a waste of time as well.

I think Razor was BSG's Lost Season 2. I mean there are so many cool things they set up in Razor, but none of it is fulfilled. WHy??

I've thought about it, but I really can't discern the purpose of it. If it was to portray Cain sympathetically, it failed. If it was to give some brief insight about Starbuck, it was unnecessary as the same thing is reiterated later. I'm not saying that every minute of every episode needs to either foreshadow or fill in a significant plot point, but I at least expect some sort of qualification for reaching back through the show's timeline to tell a story that we "missed" the first time through.

I enjoy the BSG characters enough to where that was satisfying. I just liked watching them, plain and simple.

I enjoyed most of them... although the episodes focusing on Starbuck tended to grip me less than they would, say, a fan of her character.

My main problem with Razor as a standalone effort was that the Kendra Shaw character was really flat.
