re: Bruce Pearl VS. Trent Johnson. Who should be LSU's coach?

Pearl? Hell no. I'd MUCH rather keep Johnson than touch Pearl with a 10' pole.
Lying to the NCAA is basically the worst thing a coach can do in terms of violations. It is a direct line to the dreaded LOIC finding, and it can turn any violation (no matter how minor) into devastating sanctions. And the problem with that is that it impacts other sports. If that clown lands us on serious probation, any little misstep by the football program might be treated as a repeat offense and result in more serious sanctions for the football team. We don't need any more "draconian sanctions" for the basketball program, and we damn sure don't need them for football.
Pearl seems like a good coach, but has proven to have astonishingly stupid judgment. I just can't trust a coach stupid enough to lie to the NCAA about a relatively innocuous BBQ to direct one of our major sports programs. Maybe he's learned better or maybe it was just a one time lapse of wisdom; but maybe it wasn't. I for one have zero interest in testing either theory.
Btw, is Dale busy these days . . . ?

His main vilolation was lying to the NCAA about it.

I would offer my left arm to get this guy at LSU.
It would be better for him to end up at an SEC East school.. . .that way UTk plays them twice a year as a constant reminder of their stupidity.

Yes, UT statement said another "minor infraction." Please explain to me how having high school juniors over to his house for a barbeque is cheating. The man is a good coach, hard worker, passionate about building a winning program, and is human. He made a mistake. He didn't buy players, commit murder, and deal drugs. Some of you make mountains out of mole hills!
Because it's against the fricking rules.

i cannot people seriously want a cheat to coach this team, esp after what happened to us in the 90s

There are reasons for these rules, and whether you think they make sense or not -- and even whether they actually do make sense or not -- the choice is simple: you choose to follow the rules or you choose to cheat. There is no middle ground. He chose to cheat.
Please explain to me how having high school juniors over to his house for a barbeque is cheating.
And pointing out that some cheating is worse than other cheating does absolutely nothing to change the fact that it is all still cheating. The fact that theft is a less serious crime than murder does constitute a defense; it's still a crime.

Yeah, that would be a great message for LSU to send all of the high school recruits: we'll dump a class act who is struggling for a cheating oompa loompa that we think can be a winner....LSU would be a national laughing stock.
Give TJ one more year with some good incoming talent to turn it around.

He has not had any real success since he arrived in Red Stick
So winning the Western division your first season and giving the eventual national champion Tar Heels one of their toughest matches in the NCAA tourney is not considered a success???

This, of course, happening the year after he led them to the Final Four!
We probably would have won the whole thing that year with a better coach. And it's not like all those players came to LSU just because of Brady.

Bruce Pearl. He wins. He built a successful program at Tennessee. He recruits well. He coaches with passion
Yeah, and look where that got him.

Yeah, that's worked so well for schools that have hired John Calipari.

you mean when roy williams and kansas illegally contacted lester earl to come play for them after lester made up those stories to get us in trouble? is that whart you're talking about?
i'd love for pearl to coach here. he would bring excitement back to lsu and pack the pmac. he'll take a year off and end up coaching somewhere anyway. might as well be us if trent has another bad year.

UMass
Memphis
Just a matter of time for UK.
Of course, I guess some folks don't mind getting slammed w/ probation later, just so long as they're winning NOW.

I don't understand why someone would want to go after a walking violation.
Look at where that got Indiana.

think about it like if jim tressel got fired and indiana football went after him. everybody knows he's dirty, but would it be a bad move considering the state of their program?

LSU has a coach for another year no matter who has had their "fill of Trent Johnson" and who hasn't.
I would suggest we support the guy we have and hold our water till we see what happens next year, but each to our own.
Unfortunately rantards can't even grasp this concept. They would rather be right, and have us fail, then the alternative.

Its cheating because the rules say it is. And if you believe it was a mistake there is something wrong with your head. It is right in line with giving free stuff (meals are included in this rule and it really amounts to bribary) to potential recruits. I have been going through the recruiting process first hand with my daughter and for anyone to think that it is a MISTAKE when coaches break the rules is just ridiculous. I don't want any coach for any program at LSU that has been fired because of NCAA infractions. That is just asking for trouble.

That is probably what Indiana thought about Kelvin Sampson.
