EDIT: And I have no idea. Whomever does a better job in spring practice between Lee or Mett, unless we feel like running some wildcat with Shep.

Lee. The guy who is gonna start the year off because all he needs to do is get down hes fundamentals and hes is our best option. IMHO.

Jarrett Lee

He knows the system, and he's pretty good.

I doubt that Mett knows the system by then, but if he does and he's better, put him in.

As things stand, the correct answer is Jarrett Lee, until after the Spring game, and we get a better idea of Mett's skills and progress.

JUCO Football is a big difference from SEC football. I just find it hard to fathom that Mett steps right in and is the best option. JJ finished the year very well and very confident.

To begin the year, I definitely think JJ with JL if he struggles will be the best option. Let Mett settle in as a QB on this team.

Way too early to be throwing out NC caliber with this team. We have some great potential but a shite ton to replace. MLB, DT & CB on defense. Offensively we're young at RB and only have ONE proven WR. I honestly think WR is going to be our weakest position this year. Again, so much potential but hard to tell what's going to happen under the big lights.

Kragthorpe will hopefully have Crowton's mistakes a distant memory with the Offense. I'm not worried about talent at any of the positions you mentioned - especially secondary (and overall D). Fix QB and we definitely have NC caliber talent.

There's a big difference between "NC caliber" and expecting/predicting a National Championship. About a dozen or more teams could easily be described as "NC caliber" at this point; only a handful can harbor legitimate expectations of a NC. We cleary fit in the "NC caliber" category with a pair of SR QBs, tons of experience and talent on D, 4/5 of a returning OL, and years of stocked talent across the board.

Now, whether we can legitimately harbor NC expectations is a different question, but I think we still fit.

As they say, it's not what you lose but what you return. We've seen enough playmaking out of our secondary that losing Peterson cannot reasonably be expected to create a weakness (though it likely won't be as much of a strength as last year). At DT, we've lost greats there consistently the last decade (Lavalais, Williams, Wroten, Dorsey, etc.) and consistently replaced them with more greats (Wroten, Dorsey, Nevis, etc.). And we return 2/3 of our LB starters.

RB is probably the best place on the team to be young, and we're not THAT young; Ford is in his 3rd year and both Ware and Blue saw a good bit of action last year (remember than Justin Vincent was a TRUE freshman when he led us to the '03 Championship, and Keiland and Charles Scott were both true sophomores in '07). And though we are lacking in proven production for a second WR, we do have Randle returning and Shepard has proven to be a weapon despite inconsistent QB play thus far. And again we have a ton of talent coming up.

Very true, but who in the country is not going to have to rely on potential as much as we are if not more? We return 4/5 on the OL plus our top 3 (or 5?) TEs and return Will Blackwell; 3/4 in our secondary PLUS Mathieu, Reid, Loston and Simon; our SR starting QB plus our 5th year SR other starting QB; and we should have Sam Montgomery back to bolster the DE spot.

At this point, the only qualification for legitimate National Championship expectations is to have as few questionmarks and as many answers as anyone else. Auburn has no Cam Newton or Nick Fairley, Oregon lost three off their O-line AND 3 off their D-line plus 2 LBs and 2 WRs, Bama lost McElroy and Ingram and Julio; only Oklahoma seems to have significantly fewer question marks than we do, and one could easily point out that they lost by 2 TDs to an Aggie team we beat handily in the Cotton Bowl.

I'd say we are clearly among the top 3 or 4 in the questions/answers department. Imo, that makes for an entirely legitimate hope/exectation (if you're not inclined to devastating letdowns) of a National Championship season.
