Watkins leads the team in K's and his on-base % is 7th among the regular 9

Oh me and Lester had quite the discussion on Mr. Watkins a few weeks ago. Complete with stats and namecalling.

He should have been pinch hit for in that situation. He's still our best option to lead off though IMO.

i couldn't agree more with you chief. i don't know who the answer is but a change must be made... watkins is becoming a bit of a liability at this point.

The kid is young and there is no doubt in my mind he'll be slapping .300 by next year. I just wouldnt place any faith in him this late in the game or any clutch situation. Not even moving a runner over.

Could he get a walk? Probably. Just don't think the chances of putting the ball in play positively is minimal in that situation.

les, i was anti-watkins for a while, then cooled and was willing to give him a shot

but he just isnt a good leadoff man right now, even if its temporary, there needs to be a change

Give him the series, then move Jones up there if he doesn't get it together.

Sadly I agree. Watkins is a terror on the basepaths once he gets on, but his BA is atrocious for a leadoff hitter in college. I know Hanover isn't a speed freak but I think he would be a good option.

We also clearly need work on bunting. Overall it has been good, but there have been several at bats where it is clear they're not comfortable with laying down a sac. If a player isn't comfortable laying down a sac (which it appeared to me tonight), I'd let him swing away with the tying run on 2nd and no outs. JMO.

he had a 4 fricking 11 OBP coming into tonight. I dont care if that is 7th out of 9 of the regulars that are all really good hitters. If you dont know anything about baseball, that is very good, college or pro.

Not to mention that he is the fastest player on our team and he sees a shite load of pitches.

HE is easily the most natural guy on the team to put in that situation.

Yes, he leads the team in Ks. He also is tied for 1st in walks and SB's. and 2nd on the team in runs scored. He is doing something right
